Just curious, has anyone heard the rattle or ratchet at Easter? Seems like it would be awesome.

Not in Santiago. In our village during the no bell time from Good Friday to Sunday morning the kids walk the streets up and down ratels and the kids shout the lord is coming be watchful.

I was in Braga, Portugal during Holy week one year. Amazing experience. Procession's began Maundy Thursday, after dark, men in bare feet on the cobblestone streets, wearing hoods, one carrying the giant ratchet and whirling it, chanting..................
