I'm considering doing a graduate-level independent study before/during my camino and am wondering if anyone has recommendations of what I might read. I speak French, but not much Spanish. I thought La Chanson de Roland might be a good one because of Charlemagne's connection to the pass in the Pyrenees. I also got a copy of Marjery Kempe's pilgrimage, Women of the Way, and The Age of Pilgrimage. Any others you can think of?
I'll be starting from Le Puy, so anything related to that route would be welcome, since it's a bit harder to find than the Camino Francés. I'm interested in the history of the Camino and pilgrimage in general, local history of places along the way that might be related, medieval pilgrimage, and women's pilgrimage.
