Transportation Options: SDC to Irun for Del Norte Walk

Time of past OR future Camino

This August/ September, I’m walking the Camino Portuguese from Porto to Santiago de Compostela & then walk the del Norte starting from Irun back to SDC.
My question is: what would be the best / easy / economical way to travel from SDC to Irun to start to deal Norte? Train? Bus ? Fly ? I’m allowing a day to travel to Irun from SDC.

Having done part of the route, I'd always opt for rail as it's a great way to enjoy Spain in comfort. Slow but comfortable.
