Was there a death on the Camino recently?

Time of past OR future Camino
Walked in May 2012 - Burgos to Santiago; Planning to walk in May 2013 - SJPP to Burgos!
I started the Camino out of SJPP on May 27th, walked to Orisson that day and then over the Pyrennes in horrible weather on May 28th. There is a rumour about that a Brazilian who got lost in the fog and died on the 27th. I can't find anything to substantiate this. Is this true? I've only heard and not repeated.

It's crazy...I walked with Dario in May 2011. He was known by all; he organised communal dinners to save money, meet people and taste foods from all over the world. Some would say he was almost overbearing but his heart was in the right place all the time. He loved walking the camino, he took his time and enjoyed every moment. I think it's almost appropriate he died on the Camino. Condolences to family and friends.

Thanks for responding and for the information. Will you have a chance to share your sentiments with the family? It's nice that you had moments to share and to see Dario in his element. It sounds like he was a person who embodied a lot of great things. Thanks again.

I also walked on 23 May, but we could not take the Route Napolean because of the weather. We were also told of 2 other deaths on the Pyrenees in May. There was a rumour going around that a woman had fallen and died and her body was attached by vultures but no one substantiated either deaths.

Sorry, I am on an iPhone and can't give you links but there have been several deaths this year. The Italian you mention. And yes, a young Brazilian man. And then our own Methodist Pilgrim from this forum died in his sleep at either Logrono or Navarette. There are conflicting reports.

I'm not sure the woman eaten by vultures was on the Camino but you can find the link to the artcle by a search on this forum.
