Salamanca to Santiago February and March

Has anybody walked this route at this time of the year (last week in February 1st 2 weeks in March)?. If so are there albergues open and are the conditions OK?

I think there were a few Live from the Camino threads last winter which may help you out.

I know the albergues at Salamanca and Zamora will be open. You should probably try to call ahead each day on the private ones...

I walked from Sevilla starting on Feb 11 back in 2019 (pre-covid). Even then, there were some albergues that were closed, but I was always able to find somewhere to stay without much trouble. I think that it's a beautiful time to walk.

Will you walk the Sanabrés or walk up to Astorga? Probably more infrastructure on the CF that time of year and you could use the winter albergue link to see open places once you reach Astorga.

Thanks WisTom. I'm thinking now of Seville to Salamanca now and I'm just about to book the flights. Yes, the feedback I'm getting is the weather's good and they'll be places to stay so it'll be fine. I've done 5 Caminos before so I 'know how it works' and my Spanish is OK. Did you do the whole walk?. If so 40 odd days?. I've only really got 21 days available. I met a guy on the northern Camino earlier this year who walked the Plata from Seville in 29 days including a 60km day!!. That's nuts

Didn't want to go to Astorga in the French. Done that part before and although quiet at that time the French is always to busy for me!!

I walked the VdlP from Sevilla to Granja de Moreruela, then connected to the Camino Sanabrés to Santiago. The distance is roughly 1000 km. It took 35 days. If memory serves, there were three stages over 40km, but nothing over 45. I think your 21 days will give you plenty of time to enjoy Merida, Cáceres, Zafra, and the other beautiful places between Sevilla and Salamanca (which is a gem). Just thinking about it makes me want to do it again.

I've walked Seville to Santiago staying in February. The weather can be very variable so you'll have to go prepared for cold and rain. In the mountains in the north you could encounter some snow. Accommodation shouldn't be a problem.

It's a good time of year, done it in 2020 doing it again now. Everything is pretty much open. The weather cool and changeable, we have come up from Almeria on the Mozarabe this trip and had a heat wave and rain 2020 we had snow too. Bring clothes to cope with the wet and cold and hot sun, you'll be fine. It's better than being cooked to death in the summer! Worth noting the Stone bridge into Zamora, which seems to be shut for works.
