Is it advisable to start the Camino from Porto Airport my wife and I arrive on early morning flight from Dublin so have pretty much a full day ahead been to Porto before so would like to get on Camino route proper on first day Thank you in advance for suggestions, also don't want to walk any more than 15 KM first day as travelling all night before

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
Nothing to stop you walking out to the coast from the airport (a good 90 minute walk out to Lavra/Labruge) but not a very inspiring route.
You could also just take the metro into town (25 mins to Trinidad), walk straight down to the cathedral to get a stamp, load up with breakfast and start straight out of Porto.. out to the coast at Foz and head north..

Or take the metro and go a few stops to Senhora da Hora and change there for Matasinhos (Mercado stop) to start from there, it will give you 10km head start out of Porto.

Here's a photo from just a couple of hours ago showing the coastline at Vila do Conde, a few km to the north. This is where most folk leave the coast if taking the central way..20230213_102555.jpg

I walked from city centre it was very enjoyable along the river and through the city outskirts.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Thank you Flog and dangif123 we are going to walk to matosinhos and stay there the night and then to villa de conda taking it easy to begin, got inspired to walk from Airport after downloading Elle Bieling book

I'm also walking the coastal route, my flight arrives on Tues morning around 10:30 so I'm gonna walk to Labruge stay in the albergue and continue on the Wednesday. I'm so excited already, can't wait to be walking by the sea, Buen Camino!!

I walked this route last year. Arrived at 11:30 am and was walking by noon. A bit tedious until you get to the coast. There is an underpass the goes under the runway. After I got off of the airport grounds I followed roads that went west until I reached the water. A bit south of Angeiras. I didn’t have enough days to spend time in Porto and opted to save a visit for another time. Oddly enough in a couple of places there were yellow arrows.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I slept outside one night near there last year, and it's a pretty good starting point for those flying in.

There's a large suburb near the airport, on the East side near the terminal, that the "airport variant" of the Coastal passes through, and it has places to sleep (no Albergue as such) and good places to eat.

Northward from there as you start walking, there are places for supplies, to eat, drink, and you can get easily along that way to the Coastal proper or the Central as you wish.
