The photo was taken in October last year between Redecilla del Camino and Villafranca Montes de Oca. I don't have a smartphone, so I couldn't use the app that identifies plants.

My favourite flower! Datura strammonium (aka thornapple, devil's apple, Jimsonweed etc! All parts of the plant are poisonous, but can be handled without issue. I loved seeing them along the trail. I grow them in my garden and love the trumpet flowers.

Hmm… indigenous tribes of the Americas… of the nightshade family…used as a hallucinogen and intoxicant…contains atropine and scopolamine (sounds like the truth serum used in The Guns of Navarone)…hallucinations and possibly death…but, yes the flowers are 🤙🏽. Interesting info. So, admire it, but do not eat it, make tea with it or otherwise ingest any part of it. 😳

There have been a few news articles in the past month commenting on a fairly recent archaeological discovery in Menorca - 3,000 year old hair samples which prove that people even then were consuming Datura stramonium and other local plants which contain psychoactive chemicals.
