How to donate a bench along the camino?

Some recent returnees from the Camino would like to give back to the camino and build a bench for resting pilgrims.. wherever the best location for that might be. They did not have a preference for location and I am basically trying to figure out what direction to point them in! Thanks in advance!!

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-

What a good idea!
You might want to get in contact with @Rebekah Scott who knows lots of people and organisations about all things Camino. She might have some suggestions.

One possibility. Just outside Astorga, on the left side of the Frances route to El Ganso and Rabanal and very near the Ecce Homo ermita, a Memorial Garden was established c2015 in the wake of the murder of Denise Thiem. It was in decent shape when I last walked by in September 2021.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
In the garden centres and big DIY stores in Spain there are plenty of good quality benches and there are also many sign makers who will make a brass plate, engraved with your text, that can be screwed on - then you just need to get permission to place it - not difficult, the whole thing - most difficult will be the permission - and it is a nice thought, rest for pilgrims, I like that.

Excellent idea @TreshaA2 , no doubt others have tried previously. Looking forward to positive feedback on the topic.🙏

A perfect location.

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
It sounds like this group has the funds for the bench and is only looking for a place to put it and logistics of how to get it there.
So far, at least two are committed to the idea of giving back to fellow/future pilgrims.

It's just my Wife and I looking to give back... trying to find someone with experience to make it happen. We may just have to go again (oh Darn) with a duel purpose of walking and finding a local willing to partner with us. We are all in for creating an Organized Group to do this though...

Yes, we need someone local on the ground in Spain to start inquiring and soliciting vendors and contractors. Meanwhile, we should organize ourselves and set up contribution commitments and other necessary logistics.

If you are on FB there are various’ex-pat’ groups within the specific regions you could post in. Someone living reasonably nearby your chosen location may offer to help with officialdom, purchase and placement. Worth a try.
