Open albergues between Santander and Gijón in December?

I would like to do a 2 days walk to prepare for my Christmans Camino, preferably somewhere in between Santander and Gijón. I was hoping I could stay in an albergue for the experience and the full gear test, but I can hardly find an albergue that is still open. The only one that I have found so far that might be open is the one in San Esteban de Leces. Would anyone by any chance know more options?

New Original Camino Gear Designed Especially with The Modern Peregrino In Mind!
Always good to confirm, but based on responses I've gotten lately, these should be open:
  • Albergue Piedad - Boo
  • Albergue Regato de las Anguilas - Polanco
  • Albergue Casa Flor - Pendueles
  • Albergue La Llosa de Cosme - Piñeres de Pría
  • San Esteban de Leces, as you mentioned
  • La Casa de Montse - before Villaviciosa (with advance notice requested)
  • Camping Deva - Albergue de Peregrinos, before Gijón
Not great, but also not quite so bleak as you might have feared!

Wow, thanks so much @Dave! That is a lot more than I thought indeed. I will contact them in advance to be sure.

Greetings from Llanes! It was a bit difficult to organise something around one of the few open albergues. Something with public transport and nice distances. And not walking with a credencial. So in the end I booked a pension in the center of Llanes. No regrets 😊

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Ah, Llanes. I have loved that place for more than 50 years now. I guess the percebes are out of season just now but the sidra will still solve most problems 😉
Vegetarian, so very happy to have scored a beyond burger and a glass of vermú 😄

But wow, 50 years? You must have seen big changes! Was it already a touristy town back then?

I’m hoping to do the Camino del Norte end Feb and March, so I’m interested in response above. I guess I will be looking at small or larger hotels, with transport maybe needed to get us to accommodation. Is the Norte served by buses/trains ?

Nah, it was a fishing village and a minor port for the export of quarried stone. There was one Fonda with 8 bed rooms and a permanent pot of stew. The wine, compulsory to soften the bread, was unspeakable as well as undrinkable. But the sidra, ah the sidra; fond memories 😉

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The FEVE (RENFE-FEVE) runs in conjunction with the Norte for most of the route. You should not have much difficulty finding accommodations close to if not on the route. Gronze is as ever your friend
