Hi all, just want to introduce myself! My name is Denise, I am 29 and I am planning my camino for May 2014. I have never been anywhere alone before or even experienced this type of trip. I have no experience in extensive walking either so this will be a major first in my life! I have found the forum invaluable so far and hope to learn a lot more from you guys! I may have a lot of questions...most probably very silly, so be prepared ;) look forward to talking to you all xo

I will also be walking my first camino alone for the most part. In May, according to experienced pilgrims, you will have no concerns as there will be plenty of other pilgrims in front and behind. Hope you have a wonderful time!
Buen camino.
Karen :)

Also, you're questions can't be any sillier than the ones I ask all the time! There are plenty of wonderful, knowledgeable pilgrims on this forum, so ask away... :)

Hi Denise! I am also going in May, without any walking/hiking experience, and I have never been anywhere alone either! What I do know is that it's all I can think about since I made the decision to take this journey! Maybe we'll meet up along "The Way" :) where are you starting from?

Hi all. My name is Matt and I plan on starting my journey in July. I live in Orlando and am 42 and have never even been on a hike. My questions are infinite so I will just sit back and read and learn from all you. Thanks.

Hello Denise and a hello to Matt as well. You guys are in for a journey of a life time. No experience needed. ;) The Camino will test you and reward you and it's many miles will change you.

It wasn't long ago I was in your shoes, a newbie. Since then I have made my journey (Sept 3 - Oct 6, 2013) and if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have been well prepared. We are here to help and encourage, so feel free to ask anything. It is now my time to give back.

Peace be with you and may the Lord guide your steps.

Hi Kelly, never realised how glad I would be that someone is in the same shoes :) I am the same, can't stop thinking about this trip at all! I do have some opposition from people here at home that think I'm crazy doing it alone but I am determined to do this! I only have 10 days so I have a thread up at the min of where the best place to start would be. Where are you starting?

Awesome Dee!!!! May must be women's month to walk the Camino. I love it. I am also going by myself. There are no stupid questions. That is what this forum is for. I plan on looking for a lot of my answers on the forum also.

Denise, I bought my ticket this morning! And my passport came! All in one day:) I arrive in Madrid on May 7th... Plan to get to Astorga and start there or possibly O' Cebriero! It's ok if nobody gets it, I don't really get it myself! What I do know is that It is the chance of a lifetime and I'm not backing down!

I'm sure you'll have a great time. Quite a number of women were walking alone when I was on the Camino. You meet up and socialise with others as you walk, and also at the hostals - happy to help with any questions.

I would suggest you start walking hills not sure if that is possible in Florida but I am in pa and I worked on stamina and I am not sure it helped because the up and down steep hills are what takes the most out of your body many people have knee issues from the steep down lots of knee braces after the first few days but they are all still chugging along if you can't find hills do a stair climber because you will feel like you are on one a lot lots of stones so ankle support is important also

Matt what I did was get involved with the Florida trail association and hiked loads on the Florida trail. this worked for me. There is a nice chapter in central Florida. Ed
