I too an obsessed with any thing Camino. This is all I think about and talk about. My wife who will be walking with me knows as much as I do about the Camino and she hasn't read anything about the way. It is all from me telling her.
We arrive in SJPP on September 14 depart on the 16.

Hi Jabaldo, we are heading up to Ithaca in a few weeks and plan to go to RI shortly thereafter. I'm thinking June 10th is probably when we will be heading back from RI on route 88. Does this sound like a good date to meet up. I suspect it would be somewhere around 2:00 pm in the afternoon. I think there is a MickyD's just off exit 15 unless you know of another easy access place to stop. This date is not set in stone yet, but I think it looks good for my husband and I. If I can figure out how to private message you I will send you my phone # (no need to put it up on the blog)

Roger ,,, Oh how I can relate to what you are saying . I fill my wifes and sons text with links to videos , pictures and helpful forum hints ANYTHING I find interesting on the camino ... They hate me I think ... that or they picked up a Growl virus

OH, what a group us September Perigrinos are!!!!! All excited about the Camino and spending every waking hour watching videos, and talking /blogging about our upcoming adventure. I know we will all be walking at different times during the month, but hopefully we will see each other either along the way or when we get to Santiago. I have added quite a few extra days in (I think) just in case it takes longer than I planned and time to go to Finisteri and/or Muxia either walking/bus or both, so even if we get to Santiago before some of you, hopefully we can meet up before we leave for home.

Curious!!!!! How much time is everyone taking for their trip. My husband and I have planned for 7 weeks (50 days) which includes 5 days of travel to and from home here in the US, so 45 days total for walking the Camino including the sea and back.

If all my travel to and from works out ... I should have 40 days to spend on the trail. In the beginning I was planning all my stops along the way. I nixed that. I have made reservations for Orisson but after that I am going to let how I feel and circumstances govern how fast and where I go.

I have 6 weeks . Sufficent enough time to stroll the lane and experience life without deadlines. I set my phone alarm for Oct 28th to remind me I need to wake up to my post-Camino reality .

I'm starting from St Jean Pied de Port on September 21. So a little over 18 weeks until I start - not so long really! It's beginning to get quite exciting - I've just got to buy a few last pieces of walking gear, book the train ticket from Paris to Bayonne and I'll be ready to go. It's going to be surreal when I get to St Jean, to finally be at the starting line 16 months after I made the decision that I would walk the Camino. I'll be pinching myself, I think. It's going to be great to be able to get away from my regular life for while, do something completely different, and be someone different too.

Hi, My husband and I are starting from St Jean on September 5th as well. We arrive in Madrid on the 2nd then train/taxi to St Jean on the 4th. We will walk to Orisson then taxi back to SJ for the night and then take the shuttle bus back up to Orisson on the 6th. We will be the oldies with the Aussie flag on our backpack. We will fly home on the 20th October. It's nice to know that we may live in different parts of the world but we are connected through a wish or dream to walk the Camino. All the best. Get a good nights rest then transportation back to Orisson and hit the ground walking. we will be the two Texans with our state of Texas patches on our packs. Should be starting the 5th also. I enquiried about getting back to SJPDP and returning in the morning to Orisson. You might be interested in this information -

"I am Caroline from Express Bourricot.
We do the transport of persons from St JPP to Orisson, each morning at 08:00am during "the morning shuttle", price 8 euros per person.
A transport in the afternoon from Orison to St JPP is also possible but we will do it only for you as a taxi, we will come specially, and in this case the price is 18 euros for the transport."

Now it's really official. We are on the list. At times it seems surreal and while we want to enjoy the leadup training and journey we are like racehorses at the start gate. I guess it is also the unknown of just how we will manage physically. Not too worried about the mental side as we have done lots of things in the past where we have had to dig deep to get through situations. We feel so positive that this Camino experience is right for us now. Thanks again.

We have allowed 53 days but we have never been so Spain so we will have a "rest/sightseeing" day in places like Pamplona, Burgos, Leon, Astorga. I know a lot of pilgrims don't want to stay in the big cities, but we are doing it "our way" and that includes seeing as much as we can because we don't want to have the attitude that we will see the big cities "one day" because our "one day" has now become today! When you are younger you think you have all the time in the world but we want to enjoy our time in the world from now on. Buen Camino

I agree... the time is now. I was in Spain 4 years ago and really loved the country, the people and the food.. At that time however, I was only mildly aware of the Camino.

We are arriving in SJPP on the evening of the 10th, but like you we are spending a rest day before heading to Orisson on the 12th. I'm sure we will see you somewhere along "The Way". You look much younger than us and will probably pass us on the third day or so. ;-) I'll be the short one and can't tell you what color my pack is yet, cause I have 4 brand new Ospreys here, trying them out to figure which one I like the best before I return them to REI and EMS. I'm not sure there is a pefect pack, but I'm getting close to deciding. Walking around the house with them loaded up...Quite a Site! I'm sure we'll chat more before we leave as we September Peregrinos are quite a chatty bunch.

Mary, will you be carrying that little monkey on your backpack with you? I have a little lamby from NZ which I always take with me when I travel, but I haven't decided whether or not he can hitch a ride on my pack.

Sadly they have passed. I will sprinkle some ashes in Spain. Perhaps we will bump into each other along the way. I'm having a ton of fun just preparing for it. Can't imagine how great it will be to actually begin walking in 4 months

I liven Osprey about 1 1/2 miles south of the Oaks. Sorry to hear about your parents. but I think that is a great idea to sprinkle some ashes on the Camino. I'm originally from RI and have an accent very similar to Bostonians. I like my cawfee in the morning. My daughter went to Wellesley College and worked in a lab at Harvard/Mass
General for several years before grad school. Happy training.

Oh, Petitewalker, you made my day! I can legitimately say I am in my fifties today only, for tomorrow I turn 60. I think you and I are pretty close in age. I doubt I will be passing anyone.

Good luck with your pack decision. I ended with a Gregory J38 pack because it seemed to fit me best. I really liked the Ospreys, though.

I am returning my Lowa Renegade boots to REI. I tried them twice at home (inside only, of course) as recommended by REI and think they are too heavy.

It's possible we will meet in SJPP on the 11th. I should arrive on the 7:31 p.m. train. Fingers crossed!

I am taking ten weeks off work and I will be overseas for nine weeks in total. I am going to spend a week in England, then three nights in Paris, then two nights in SJPP, before starting the Camino on 21 September with the intention of arriving in Santiago de Compostela on 24 October. So I am hoping to complete the Camino in 34 days. I was then going to have a rest day in Compostela, and then spend four days walking to Finisterre and/or Muxia, before returning to Compostela by bus, spend two nights there, and then fly on to England to visit family.

Yes I am very fortunate. I know that a lot of people are not able to put aside this amount of time to walk the Camino in one go.

My wife and I will be on the Camino a few days behind you. We depart SJPP on the 16th. We have no plans except to complete the journey. To complete what ever is in our path and go on. We just might catch up with you and your group along the way. In the mean time have a wonderful time.

Update: Just received an email back from Orisson Refuge [ faster than I thought or than they said on phone ].

They want you to pay 33 euros per person months in advance to hold your place. First one that wanted to be paid four [4] months in advance and is the most expensive I've seen in all the information on alburgues / refugios.

I sent an email back to inquire about their cancellation policy in the event of health issues, airline strikes, weather delays, etc.

Is this a standard practice? The other two [2] albergues don't seem to be as expensive or have asked for payment yet. Anyone with prior experience with Orisson Refuge?

Is it worth the high price? Have they charged so far in advance for anyone else?

Makes me a bit nervous dealing with a refugio so far away and not knowing much about them.

Can anyone comment about Orisson Refuge from experience? Thank you!

I had to cancel last year due to family reasons… had booked orisson.. from what I recal I got my money back via paypal.. I wasnt worried about that would have happily "paid it forward" and let someone have anight on me . Anyway have just booked again in the hope of getting there Sept 24th

I'm dithering! family complications in the background, my daughter is sinle working mum and my grandson starts school this September I think she needed me for the drop offs- she says go but I feel guilty!!

I had this sort of same thing last year…. I cancelled Camino last Sept and have rebooked for this Sept… last year daughter with first born aged 7 months took baby to see family n turkey … I felt she would need me when they got back from such big trip and daughter back at work… anyway I dont regret staying to help her … BUt Ia m biting at the bit to go this year.. so they will have to manage without me this year….. we should not feel guilty … we can do our best but still have to be our own person ….

Yes, you think they have well flown the nest and then you realise they are back in a different form! Anyway I see I am leaving St Jean a few days before you but as I am going to take it very slowly at first, we may meet up en-route. For me it is a big challenge doing this alone as I have always travelled with family and yes need to find myself after years mothering and working. My family have expressed their concerns about me doing this! This week I met a woman pushing her grand children in the buggy and she told me she had done this fifteen years ago and would for two pins come with me but she is committed with supporting family....

Hi Petitewalker,

I have planned out 42 days from 23 September to 4 November( includes travel). Plan to start the Camino on 9/26. I am from Boston, MA, but my folks lived in Osprey (at the Oaks). Sadly they have passed. I will sprinkle some ashes in Spain. Perhaps we will bump into each other along the way. I'm having a ton of fun just preparing for it. Can't imagine how great it will be to actually begin walking in 4 months

Our daughter had a hockey scholarship to Boston University about 12 years ago and studied there for 2 years. She also saw a lot of the country playing games. We have many gifts, T-Shirts, caps etc in our house with Boston on them! Buen Camino

Please can I have some advice?
I am starting walking The Way in September. The first four nights a friend is joining me and I have another friend who fancies joining me for the last 5 days or so. She is based in the UK. I realise she will not be able to stay in the hostels without a credential. I have a couple of questions. Are credentials easily available in Sarria? Any suggestions as to the easiest way to get to Sarria from the UK? The other advice I would welcome is whether others have had folks join them at the end and whether this has worked. I am sort of thinking from what I have read that from Sarria on its a different Camino anyway due to the numbers joining there.

In Sarria you can get a Credential from the Church of Santa Marina, on Calle Major and from the near by municipal albergue , Calle major 31. Be sure to read this earlier Forum thread on starting from Sarria and the two stamps per day rule especially after Sarria.

Use the handy Rome2Rio.com site for various ways to travel to Sarria from England.

I've been looking for a group for interaction of the Septmember 2014 folks and haven't had much success . Figure I would hop in here and start one , then I would get a ton of emails telling me were at least five such threads dwell . If I don't then , Welcome to the only verified , validated, Ivar approved ( I hope ) Camino September 2014 Topic( as of 2/6/2014) . All are welcome of course. Except for the Janurary Pilgrims .. cause something just isn't right if your going in Janurary ( Brrrrr)

Joe here , Arkansas , Heading out and up on the 26th to Orission of the Camino Francis with my wife & son . Ticketed and almost equiped . Oh Boy!.

I am arriving in SJDP on the 6th September and starting from there with my brother. He lives in Sydney Australia and I live Vancouver Canada. So looking forward to the trip. I am busy training now, getting in my 20 klm walks almost every day. We stay the first night after SJDP in Orission we have it reserved...

I love it, Joe! And in all fairness, I would have to send a taxi halfway back to meet your taxi coming forward! Hmm, seems a bit too complicated for card delivery. Yes, you have a great solution. I will do the same, toasting you and Laurie and wishing you both a Buen Camino, with my first glass. And then perhaps another toast to you and Laurie on the 26th as you set out from SJPdP! I think I might just get into the swing of this toasting ritual.

If all goes according to plan, I'm hoping to meet @gerardcarey and @petitewalker on the 11th in SJPdP before they head out on the 12th, a day ahead of me. I imagine they won't mind lifting up a glass to you and Laurie as well!

Yes, this is a superb idea!. We will lift a glass to Yaw'll ( Arkansas Speak) in return, at Orisson . Leave an impression there ( Orission) so when we stand up and call out your names( To Mary, Linda and Gerard ) they will know from whom thy and thee toasts upon . (btw ... this is a hoot)
