The caminho Portugese is totaly different to the camino Francès.Two years ago on the Frances we usually settled into an albergue late afternoon, rested, and then had a Menu del Dia about 7 p.m. Will the Portugues be the same? What time are the pilgrim meals?
Thanks.

A menu del dia usely will be served between 13h00 and 14h30. It was meant and ordonated by the former Spanish generalissimo Franco that every worker had a decent 3 course meal during midday for a reasonable price. Today this is about 10€ The Portuguese took this habit over.
I think you meant a common pilgrim menue. That is something different.
The only places where there are common pilgrimdiners are on the Lisbon to Porto leg at the albergue Hilario's in Serdanella/Mealhada, the casa Diosceana in Albergaría-a-Velha and on the Porto to Santiago leg at casa Fernanda in Vitorino dos Piaës.
Yes. We experienced that today. Arrived at 13h 00 in a fairly small place called Oia at the Spanish coast. Thanks for explaining the difference. I guess I'm wondering whether we'll be able to eat an evening meal relatively early while we're in the small towns along the way, or will we be waiting for restaurants to open at 8:30 or 9.
Unlike the Francés, it is not common for the albergues on the Portuguese to offer a meal either on the portuguese or spanish side. Some will have kitchens but usually not well furnished.
However in Portugal opening hours are much more broad than in Spain except for late night, we don't stop for the siesta. Having a meal at any time usually isn't a problem, perhaps you'll have fewer options. Many cafes serve food, and these are open throughout the day. By 7PM I expect every restaurant will be up and running.
Regarding pilgrims menus, ask the albergue if there are places nearby that do them or any place nearby they recommend. I've never been disappointed doing this. For example, the firemen's cafe in Barcelinhos do good cheap meals for pilgrims, there are two albergues ~100m away from the firestation.
No the ferry was not running untill today (sorry just see your message now )Beuna Tarde Albertinho,
Can I ask you if the ferry was running and what the hours are.
Thanks
