    Worried about St Jean

Thanks! I did find a hotel room in Bayonne. The last one it seems. Two men wound up sleeping outside the train station that night. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Camino de Santiago Forum mobile app

    Gluten Free on Camino

I just got to Santiago yesterday and did fine being wheat free. Like someone said, there are Spanish tortillas in nearly every bar ...until the last few days. I bought rice cakes in supermercados and put butter and jam on them in the mornings along with carrying nuts, fruit, tuna, and chocolate...

    Leather cowboy hat?

I've Ben wearing my leather outback hat and have been glad to have it. I can crush it to fit in a big pocket if needed but have done it rarely. Make sure it either fits tight or has a string or you'll lost it to the wind!

What did you cook along the camino?

One day we found cayenne peppers so we bought tomato sauce, rice, onion, sweet red pepper, a can of corn, and some halibut and made an amazing stew. And it had a kick.

Beware of thieve disguised as peregrinos

Jason, I have heard about what happened but didn't know it meant having to go home. Word is spreading about thieves disguised as pilgrims and your story. Hopefully you can return some day to finish your journey. Stephanie from Boston says hello and sorry you had that experience.

Where did you have a good Menu del Dia on the Camino Frances

Packing light: I'm allergic to wheat and have many other food issues and I'm doing fine. The locals look at you funny sometimes when you say no pan (bread) but the tortillas are great. Made from eggs and potatoes. When an albergue has only starch for breakfast I go to a bar and order there...

Where did you have a good Menu del Dia on the Camino Frances

Last night we had he best menu del dia dinner of our Camino at the Hostel Albany restaurant in Leon, right by the cathedral. I had gazpacho and pork in a cheese sauce that was heavenly and my friend had a real steak! Still got fries but they were home made. Biggest problem was we were so...

How much wet weather gear do I need in June?

We're here in May and it has been the coldest and wettest May the locals have ever seen. I'm thoroughly glad I brought rain pants and a good rain jacket. When not raining, they've kept me warm(er). Its also been very windy. Hopefully it will warm up and dry out by the time you get here. Keep an...

    New albergue in Zabaldika

This is one place that's not to be missed if you can stop there. New, lovely, and absolutely wonderful people run it. We pushed ourselves too hard to make it here but in the end it was worth it. Fantastic dinner and a small service after if you want to attend. Breakfast in the morning. Wonderful.

    Worried about St Jean

Thanks for the advice. I'm at the airport now waiting to leave for France and still don't know what I will be doing tomorrow night. Due to a family crisis, I haven't been able to sit down and look for places to stay in either town. I know that no matter what, God will provide. So I'm going to...

    Worried about St Jean

Most places I find say the Pilgrims Office closes at 22hr (10:00PM) but it looks like the last train gets in at 22:30 (10:30PM). If I take the last train in, will they be open to help me? Or should I stay in Bayonne?

    Meeting set for Chicago area

I would LOVE to attend, but will probably be scheduled to work that afternoon. I'm planning on walking the Camino Francais May-June this year. Hopefull I can leave work early that day :)

    List your shoes

I have purchased a pair of Ahnu "Montara" hiking boots. It's a newer company, but the boots make my feet feel like I'm walking on pillows. So far, I've walked as many as 12 miles in them with no problems. The only concern I have is around the ankles because I am really not used to having shoes...

    Class of 2013

I'm Kim from the Chicago area and I plan on starting out from SJPDP mid-May 2013, after my children's birthdays. My baby girl will turn 21 right before I leave and hopefully will be joining me in Santiago in June. I've been planning this since April this year, after seeing The Way. Life has...
