Alert Bridge flooded between Areosa and Carreço

Looks to be a foot bridge farther downstream that would work

Alert Bridge flooded between Areosa and Carreço

🇵🇹 CP coastal (official, not littoral). Bridge flooded with recent rain and fast flowing water. Stepping stones still accessible but probably best to avoid. A kind man drove me across!

    European SIM - data-only or talk/text?

Update: I got a Portuguese Vodafone eSIM before leaving Canada as it was cheaper than Orange/Airalo/Holafly for minutes. Website is very easy to use and in English for buying the eSIM but on landing in Dublin I received texts in Portuguese about roaming fees and wound up having a conversation...

    European SIM - data-only or talk/text?

Thank you all for your feedback! Very helpful! Sounds like I could get by with data-only by emailing auberges or using Skype but having some minutes would be more convenient. Great suggestions on the Orange, Airalo and Vodafone plans. I like the idea of having a few international minutes/texts...

    European SIM - data-only or talk/text?

Hi all, I have been trying to find the right plan for my phone for the Portuguese Camino and although I have found lots of helpful information on the forums I can’t seem to figure out how important it is to have talk and text capability while in Europe. I’ve seen several data-only eSIM plans...

Hi, I am planning on doing the Portugues from Porto to SDC starting Oct 19 - so very similar timing to what your post was about. Any recommendations for gear or what to expect? Thanks!

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

What an experience! Good to know French could definitely be helpful and I’m glad you didn’t have to go hungry!

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Thank you all for your input! It seems clear that most people found a longer time helpful and both the Frances and the Portugues (as well as its variants!) sound like beautiful options. I'll look into Lisbon some more and I feel reassured that there are many ways to do the Frances as well :)

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Such a good point! And your description of the Frances sounds truly wonderful :) Thank you for the tips on ways to break away from crowds if desired - I like the idea of being flexible and having some days with companions and some time for solitude.

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Very interesting re: French in Portugal! I had no idea it was taught in schools at one point. Portugal does sound lovely as well. I'm hopeful that having knowledge of French will make it a bit easier to learn a bit of Portuguese and/or Spanish prior to going as well.

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Thank you for mentioning this - I think I've been mentally thinking of the Frances as one of the routes appropriate for beginners while the Lisbon to Porto segment is perhaps more "advanced"... but your reference to your first Camino on the Frances before the "modern Camino" is a good reminder...

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Thank you - I will reflect on the "why walk to Santiago" question! Re: why not start in Lisbon - I'm a bit apprehensive about starting from Lisbon because my understanding is it's a bit more challenging for a first camino as there's less infrastructure and although I would prefer a path that's...

    Frances vs Portugues for self-reflection

Hello! I am planning a first-time Camino starting in mid-September 2023 and wondering from those who have done the Portugues from Porto vs the Frances from SJPDP if you felt there was a significant difference in the experience in terms of time for self-reflection, spirituality and growth...
