    Money stolen in hostel

Theft is nowhere near as bad a problem as it was in the 1990s and 2000s, but it does occasionally still happen, so it pays to have an anti-theft strategy.

LIVE from the Camino LIVE from the Camino de Catalán

Tarmac or trail, it's anyway generally uphill 'til you get past the Sierra before Santa Cilia on the Huesca variant, or 'til you finish your uphill out of Logroño towards Santiago on the Lleida one. One silver lining is that the more you walk on, the cleaner the air gets from the incrementally...

    Confused over date format

Behind the scenes FWIW, all time stamps in software are recorded YYYY MM DD HH mm ss (and possibly further divisions of seconds if needed by the software, and certainly financial software records but does not usually make use of at least 10ths and 100ths of seconds). When I was still writing...

Najera albergue reopens after renovation work

Looks like still rows of bunk beds, but a lot better than it was -- they seem to have reverted to the originally intended number of them, instead of cramming in whichever maximum extra number they could possibly fit in !!

    Miam miam dodo necessary?

I've walked only a short section of the Le Puy Way, but I'd say that it's essential -- because unlike other routes in France (or in Spain), the guidebook outperforms the online resources for lodging info especially.

    What's changed?

That's one of the two exits. No such thing at the northern exit, just some steps up to the doors, the ones at the far end here : There are sometimes some street vendors outside, but no gift shops except up the street to the right.

    How much cash to bring?

Come to think of it -- given the €30 cash you know you'll need, and maybe food there could be cash only too, maybe start with €250 ?

    How much cash to bring?

200 Euros sounds OK, and if not, then one extra withdrawal would almost certainly be enough.

It's an army base, so in either case I do need to go there. It's not mail order !!

I should be less poor this year than the last few ones (cross fingers !!) -- and I am increasingly leaning towards starting from Salamanca on this surprise intermediary Camino. Anyway, as none of it will be a Winter Camino this year, and a lot of it will be off the beaten path once I head out...

Holed Up With a Nasty Cold

There are a bunch of these going round in southern Europe at the moment, I've had roughly half a dozen colds since the Autumn. Some of them are not unlikely to be common cold/covid recombinant coronaviruses, therefore highly contagious -- and very annoying.

    DETOUR: bridge out near Canfranc

Myself ? I'd choose tarmac instead of that thing, it is NOT a busy road, and it's a short walk between the two.
