      The way to San Martin does not feel at all historical as you trudge along in sight of a highway. The route through Mazarife is much more pleasant.

      Yes, walked it about four years ago or so. Lovely walk and some of the most beautiful countryside you’ll see on Camino. You can actually start directly from the airport and cut across to the marked path, but I preferred heading to Bayonne first...

      Pilgrim office at beginning and end. Pay with your passport or with the credential. Of course it's not foolproof and easily avoided, but the point is I'd bet more would give than wouldn't. Thoughts?

      I would establish a user fee of $20 per pilgrim to establish a way to cover the costs (especially in rural areas) for the clean up of the trash some pilgrims leave along the way. These small towns and villages shouldn't bear the brunt of pilgrim...
