    Plantar Fasciitis

I had it for a year. Rolling my foot on a firm rubber ball several times a day to massage really helped. I still do it. Specialist insoles for shoes also really help. Good luck.

Last minute advice for solo traveler

Listening to Music/Audiobooks/Podcasts while making the pilgrimage?

No earbuds. No music. No books or podcasts. Just be in the moment and listen. Listen. Listen to the bird song, the wind, the rustle of the trees, the voices of other pilgrims. Listen to the peace, silence. Listen to your own thoughts. That’s how I have walked the Camino Frances twice. It’s...

Advice for New Peregrino Starting in May

Each time I have walked I always take a poncho with sleeves that also is made to fit over your backpack. Perfect cover. No flapping in the wind or wet arms. Rolls up small. Be sure to take flip flops or open trecking sandals to ‘air your feet’ in the evening. Enjoy! Buen Camino.

Sleeping bag needed if staying in hotels rather than alberques?

The first time I walked the Camino I ended up posting my sleeping bag back home to lighten the load as I stayed in hotels and Casa rurals after Orisson. The second time I bought a very light fleece type bag which folded very small for Orisson and just in case. Buen Camino.

    Poncho

Which ever you get make sure it has sleeves and a ‘hump’ so it goes over you and your rucksack. Then you can cope with wind and rain and no flapping or wet arms. Buen Camino

What do you do when you cannot walk anymore?

About four years ago I set off to walk the Camino Frances alone carrying my stuff aged 65years. A one way ticket so I could take as long as it takes. After five weeks of joyous walking I developed really painful Achilles tendinitis and realised I had to stop or be left with serious long term...

    Stress with finding accommodation

Booking.Com can be useful even in small places and does include some Alburgues. Also when I walked it I used google translate to work out a few sentences saying my name, I only speak a little Spanish and I am English, what I want to book and when and quite often they would start speaking...

A plea to all women on the Camino Frances: ‘Take your toilet tissues with you’!

Another good option but watch where the panty liners get deposited. Probably more comfortable not to bother with them.

What suggestions would you make to improve the camino journey?

Even better use an old plastic bag ( screws up tiny into your bag after use great for airing bare feet so stones and dirt don’t stick to them ) and watch out for perching points on outcrops of rocks or the bank of a ditch.
