Thank you to all of the forum members whose input influenced me to walk, for my first Camino, the coastal route of the CP from Porto to Vila do Conde before joining the central route near Arcos. The walk along the Rio Douro to the ocean was safe and very scenic and even more scenic passing...
Hello!
I will be starting the CP from Porto. I already have a Credencial and plan to get my first stamp at the Cathedral (Se). Is there is a "pilgrim office" in Porto where one may register to be included in the official pilgrim statistics for the CP? I couldn't find an answer to this question...
Hello Matt,
Suggest you consult popular travel guides such as Rick Steves, Lonely Planet, Fodor's, etc. for things to do and places to eat in Porto. These guides are usually available in your local library or bookstore. They don't change much if you happen to come across a 2013 or 2014 edition...
Yes, I had planned to see Sao Bento and the Lello which some call the most beautiful book store in the world. The cost of a single trip 3-zone metro ticket (Trinidade to Mercado) is €1,50 so I will do that each way. Lots to see in Porto for sure. From your posts I sensed you enjoyed your stay.
Albertinho,
Thanks for your lead. I booked a night at hostel Bellamar in Vila do Conde using booking.com as suggested by Meldelcamino and others. From there I will walk to Sao Pedro de Rates to join the interior route.
I decided to spend two nights in Porto. On the second day in Porto I will...
Hello Albertinho,
Do you recall the name of your hostel in Matosinhos and approximately where it is located? Brierley doesn't mention any places to sleep in Matosinhos in his 2015 guide - many cafes but no lodging until Vila do Conde.
Thank you.
Hello Gaulsdog,
I reviewed your mile splits from Matoshinos to Vila do Conde and had a question on the total distance. The Brierley guide indicates the distance is about 22 km or 13 miles. Your data indicates 18 miles. Which do you think is correct?
Thank you.
Hello,
I read some posts from Albertinho and others from a few years ago indicating that hostels and pensions on the CP usually provide towels but albergues usually don't. Can someone update me whether that is still the practice on the CP? I've seen quite a few gear lists that include towels so...
Thank you for providing the street name where the pilgrim office and Alsa booth are located! It's very helpful to know this before arriving in Santiago.
Thank you for the three replies above.
To simplify for those that have the same interest that I do, it appears there is one Alsa bus daily that leaves Santiago at noon and arrives in Lisbon at 9:00 p.m. The cost is 56 euros. There are also three Alsa buses daily that leave Santiago for Porto at...
I plan to complete the CP in late July and would appreciate logistical information for returning from Santiago de Compostela to Lisbon by bus. I recall seeing a post that indicated there is no direct bus service from Santiago to Lisbon and that it was necessary to first travel from Santiago to...
Hello beingmarci,
I work at an outdoor outfitter and custom fit backpacks for customers every day. Many backpacks have adjustable harness systems to overcome the problem of the hip belt being too high or too low. When properly adjusted, the hip belt should ride approximately on the center of...
Albertinho,
I appreciate that the coastal route to Vila do Conde is likely much more scenic than the interior route between Porto and Vilarinho. Is this why you said the coastal route is "better"? Did you mean it is "safer" because one does not walk along a busy highway (N-13) or for other...
The interior route from Porto to Santiago is 150 miles so that distance would seem to work well given your ideal walking pace. On your first day you could take the metro from Porto to Vilar do Pinheiro which would eliminate about 9 miles just to give you a little margin should you need it later...
