Porto-Santiago (July 2015)
I plan to complete the CP in late July and would appreciate logistical information for returning from Santiago de Compostela to Lisbon by bus. I recall seeing a post that indicated there is no direct bus service from Santiago to Lisbon and that it was necessary to first travel from Santiago to Vigo and then from Vigo to Lisbon but I don't recall that any other information was given such as the name of the bus company(s) involved. I have checked the schedules on the websites of Alsa and Rede Express but could not find this connection through Vigo. If anyone has made the return trip to Lisbon or Porto from Santiago by bus I would appreciate knowing the connections involved.

Thank you!

You can go by bus from Santiago to Fatima. Take the train in Fatima to Lisbon.
Thank you for the three replies above.
To simplify for those that have the same interest that I do, it appears there is one Alsa bus daily that leaves Santiago at noon and arrives in Lisbon at 9:00 p.m. The cost is 56 euros. There are also three Alsa buses daily that leave Santiago for Porto at 10 a.m., noon and 5 p.m., respectively. The cost is 36 euros. There are Rede Express buses that leave Porto for Lisbon approximately every 30 minutes throughout the day and evening at a cost of 20 euros making it possible to have some flexibility if the noon Alsa bus from Santiago doesn't fit your schedule.

Good hiking.

Miles2go,

It is helpful to book your Alsa bus to Portugal at least the day before you wish to travel. You can do this at the Alsa booth in the SdC bus station. Be prepared to show your national passport and pay in cash when you book.

Bom caminho!

Glad to learn that Alsa has a booth at the Pilgrim Office during the season. Last December that booth did not exist hence my visit to the SdC bus station to reserve and purchase a ticket. Although the weather was cold with icy vegetation to begin all went well on route.

We took the bus back to Porto today.
We bought the tickets last saturday at the pilgrims office in the Rua de Vilar in Santiago
Alsa has a booth there just next to the entrance of the office so inside the gate !
I donot know if you are over 60 years old but if, show your ID, and ask for a ticket
" tercera edad". You then get your ticket for 30€ to Porto. The discount for Lisbon I do not know but the price shall be about the same 10% less

The bus today to Porto was very full so the Lisbon bus took us to Porto via Vigo,Braga and Porto airport so I do not think it will arrive in Lisbon at 21h00 but definitively later.
Thank you for providing the street name where the pilgrim office and Alsa booth are located! It's very helpful to know this before arriving in Santiago.
