    Ultra lightweight backpack--worth it?

Hi Chris, I swapped out a heavy pack, for an arc haul, 50L. Best move I ever made. While I am male, I do a lot of hiking short and long distance. With many female hikers, very few have ever had a female only designed pack. If you pack is for a camino in Spain, 60L is way to large. I would...

    Sellos on the Francigena

Just finished the Francigene from Aosta, never had a problem getting a stamp. All accomodation have a stamp, tourist offices like wise, most businesses will give you their business stamp if you ask politely and show them your credential. 🙏

Altra trail shoes versus hiking shoes

I walked the Via de la Plata last year over 1000km in Altra lone peak 6 no problem and I have just completed 1000km on the via Francigene with version 7 no problem. I would say with comfort I could get up-to 1150km from them. I have 6 days in Rome walking and I am sure I will add another 100kms...

    Valcarlos route

Hi I walked this route in 2018, easy to follow, lots of sign posts. You will have a small amount of road walking. Otherwise the route is pretty, be prepared for a very steep climb at the end just prior to the slow easy descent into Roncesvailles. Buen Camino

2023 Roll Call for Via Francigena

Hi MichaelC I think that is sound advice, I will book this first nights accomodation to be on the safe side. I will see how I go, while I am on a budget also , I do have some capacity for higher accomodation cost for the odd few days during the trip. I did expect more traffic in Tuscany it is a...

All booked, well almost, flights out of Australia, into and out of Rome. one nights accommodation on arrival in Rome, train to Aosta. Start walking back to Rome (lol) using the Sandy Brown (Ciccrone) guide book. Is it imperative that I book a bed ahead each day, I normally walk til I feel like I...

Jet Lag After Flying Direct from Australia to Paris for Camino Starting in St Jean

While I have done that route, it’s a long way and a long time traveling. Any delay on route can impact total journey time. I had 2 nights in St Jean, lucky for me as we were delayed and it allowed me to have an extra day exploring St Jean. Sorry lucky I booked an extra night. Buen Camino

2023 Roll Call for Via Francigena

I was looking to start at the pass in Switzerland and hike down through Aosta. Investigating the historic weather patterns mid to late May stands a better chance for the pass. I think if you start from Aosta you should be ok at that time of the year, but one can never tell. Buen Camino
