Too crowded - enjoyed my time in Estella - they had a great place for tea run by two sisters, but I was moving faster than expected, so I kept going. Loved la Perla Negra so much in 2018, that I detoured over there last year just so I could spend the night there.
I love Pamplona and had a great meal there, but pushed on to Cizur Minor for a lovely stay in the albergue there - the Albergue Orden de Malta. Also, I walked past Estella and stayed in Azqueta at the Perla Negra - you will not regret it. Buen Camino.
¡Hola Gerardo! My Osprey 36 L pack is plenty big - I carry it on going to Spain, then check it in on the return full of my stuff+ gifts - Spanish olive oil, etc. Claro, todo es una preferencia personal. Buen camino.
2018 - Madrid to Astorga (arriving on Alsa) where I saw my first Camino sign and burst into tears; then walked all the way from Astorga to Murias de Rechivaldo (4.6 km!!!) as I consulted my Brierley every few steps and asked everyone I saw if I was on the Camino. I arrived at the most beautiful...
I hope to walk the Primitivo the first two weeks of October and will be serving at the donativo in Grado from the 15th to the 31st. Stop by and say hi!!!
It started at dinner about serving a veggie meal, and escalated from there - I think it was near the end of their stay; the albergue was packed (!!) and they were nearing their melting point. Needless to say, in the bathroom the following morning, I asked how another pilgrim had slept "Not a...
Glad you made it to those special places! There are many ways to do it. We ended up taxiing from Jaca to Santa Cruz, dropped off our bags at the fancy hotel there, and walked up the well marked trail (no road hike necessary) to the Monastery to enjoy a lovely lunch at the top, explored, returned...
A very nice Camino - much lesser walked by people from the States, and plenty of services at the beginning of May 2023. We served at the albergue in Canfranc for two weeks in late May, we served 89 pilgrims from 28 countries and 6 continents. The only pilgrims from the U.S. were friends of ours...
I've started 2 Caminos in the afternoon - St Jean to Orisson (came in from Lourdes) and Astorga to Murias de Rechivaldo (!!!) (came in from Madrid). I enjoyed those little stages to help me prepare for the longer days ahead.
I left Lourdes early, and arrived in St Jean at lunch time - Pilgrim office closed, but it was important to me to get my first stamp there, so I had a wonderful lunch and then the office opened, I got my stamp and walked to Orisson. A wonderful first day on the Camino!
I would definitely consider a part of the Frances for that time of year, with a novice, etc Maybe Leon to Santiago for a Compostela, or Pamplona to Leon? ...Enjoy, Sue!
Thank you both for your responses. My last consideration is I'll be a year older - just one more factor. I will definitely train and prepare beforehand.
I'm hoping to walk the Primitivo early October, 2024 and wonder how it's been for you as you walk this time of the year, specifically:
1) have you encountered many pilgrims?
2) are most albergues open?
3) have you had to use a light sleeping bag?
4) how cold/wet has it been?
5) have you had to...
