during my research about via bayona I came upon this thesis - I'm not sure what the actual title is, actually -, but on pages 32 and 33 is a beautiful map drawn in 1765 which shows the entire Camino Real de Coches in gipuzkoa. it shows both the old route via tunél de san adrián and the new route...
six weeks wasn't enough camino yet, so I decided to go a bit closer to home and do two parts in france that I hadn't done before. they also neatly connected my various previous caminos so now I can say that I have walked from mediterranean to the atlantic. ;-)
voie de la nive was a bit of a...
As I was in Santiago a day before my birthday this year, I was looking for a fitting gift for myself. In the cathedral's shop I saw this book by Julio Vázquez Castro called La peregrinación a Santiago de Diego de Guzmán, Diario inédito de 1610, published by alvarellos and xunta. Oh? I thought...
years back, I came across an article about an excavation beneath this (more) modern cross at the end of calle real in molinaseca. the article said that beneath the cross a monolith (possibly a menhir) was buried. this would probably be a unique definite reference of a cross replacing an earlier...
I've seen some comments on gronze from 2018 that say there is another albergue in el ganso, in a bar la barraca down the main road from albergue gabino. it's difficult to get any info on that apart from those comments. anyone stayed there (recently)?
there are a few pilgrims depicted on late medieval frescoes in and close around slovenia. one of them is in Beram, Istria (close to where the white truffles come from), in a little church of sv. Marija na Škriljinah. it was frescoed in 1474 by Vincenz iz Kastva, an almost local painter. it forms...
I found this article on voz de galicia's site that a new hostel has opened in Viveiro this july, Oli Vita Hostel: https://www.lavozdegalicia.es/noticia/amarina/viveiro/2019/07/14/oli-vita-hostel-abre-viveiro-servir-segunda-casa-viajero/0003_201907X14C4991.htm. this is very good news for...
this was new. I just had to write 13 tiny answers (420 characters limitation pretty much amounts to one sentence) to a question to a private message and had to wait 25 seconds to post each of the answers. I really felt rather ridiculous.
anyone else experiencing this?
a glitch?
on the site of camping fuentes blancas which lies along the riverside variant into burgos are the prices for albergue beds, but there is no other information or pictures about the number of beds etc.

has anyone ever stayed there?
I've come across this casa de acogida / albergue juvenil at the foot of cartuja de miraflores, about 3km east of burgos, and close to the riverside route into burgos. apparently they have been in business since 2014.

my two cents on the via francigena accommodation. (it actually starts in martigny on the swiss side because I thought it would be cool.) it's oriented towards pilgrim-specific and pilgrim-friendly budget accommodation, compiled from various sites and various blogs.
may it serve you well! :)

a new year present for all those who wish to discover a little travelled but spectacular camino. :)
partial guide, to be precise, from cistierna to cacabelos or ponferrada, for those who came on vadiniense and are not yet prepared to face the crowds of the camino francés.
it encompasses the...
as one of the top contenders for my future camino combo (together with the new routing of the camino olvidado, because the mountains are always calling to me) and as both caminos are becoming more popular, I put together this two guides in english to help you decide and plan more easily. they...
I just saw this article which appears to be from the spring of this year, about a (new) pilgrim albergue in the centre of pontevedra: http://diariodepontevedra.galiciae.com/noticia/676350/el-santuario-de-las-apariciones-se-reinventa-como-albergue-de-peregrinos-con-120.
this one has a bit more...
there were some inquiries about a more detailed description of CPI in one or two other threads, and after reading about aurigny's adventures, I've decided to post here my unfinished description of CPI and perhaps save someone a bit of wandering around.
it is done from farminhao (a day before...
