  1. Q

Can I pack my small multi tool in carry on luggage (backpack)?

Im pretty sure it will be confiscated. Either check ur bag or leave it at home. You can always buy one on the Camino.
  2. Q

    Middle or end Sept?

Prepare for rain just in case. I walked the last week in September and the first week in October last year and it was perfect weather. A week after I finished there were torrential rains and flooding for over weeks straight. So you never know. From a historian point septis always safer than...
  3. Q

How does one travel from the train station Madrid Chamartin to Madrid Barajas airport?

Take a taxi. They are easy to find and there is a fixed rate. Better than trying to figure out public transportation.
  4. Q

Inviting reflections on the wider costs of walking a Camino

I’ll keep this short. For a 78 year old walking for the first time, I spent about $3500 to walk the Camino for two weeks staying in private rooms, eating well in the evenings, using baggage transfer and covering all transportation costs flying from the US and in country transfers. Gifts and...
  5. Q

Is it possible to get stamps from Albergues if not staying there?

Don’t worry about getting stamps. They are everywhere, stores, bars, restaurants, almost all accommodations. This is true particularly along the route from Sarria since it is so well traveled.
  6. Q

    Heads up: Albergue scam?

Bookings has been hacked and their files are being used to get personal and financial info from users. They are doing this by sending out emails that say your reservation is cancelled or rebooked at a higher rate. Always check directly with the lodging to determythe voracity of the email. Never...
  7. Q

    Sarria too busy?

I am 78 and a slow walker and walked from Sarris in late September early October last year. Not the busiest time but still a good number of pilgrims. Regardless, I would recommend that you stick with your plan. I spent ten days, two days in Sarria for jet lag and touring and then eight nights on...

    Flying from the US

I flew Iberia from JFK and they were very h3lpful. The connection in Madrid was only 55 min but they fast tracked me and I and my bag made it in plenty of time. I have stopped flying American airlines because i have had so many issues with delayed and cancelled flights.
  9. Q

Timing - Flight Arrival to Boarding the Alsa Bus at Madrid's T4

Should be no problem. I think Iberia international flights deplane at T4. Even if it flight does not there is really good transportation between terminals. I made a 50 minute flight connection with time to spare.

    Drinking water @hotels

I don’t know how I can make this any clearer, but I’ll try. I am not comparing Spain’s drinking water to Egypt. I am simply saying that people who have alimentary issues are better served by drinking bottled water while on the Camino. People spend a lot of resources planning and paying for their...
  11. Q

    Drinking water @hotels

If you have never had a bout of amoebic dysentery than you are not aware of the lingering issues that typify the infection. Any change in drinking water can cause a problem for me even if the water is potable and the changes slight. There is a significant difference in the flora and fauna of...
  12. Q

    Drinking water @hotels

I finished a Camino in early October and stayed in a variety of accommodations along the way. Although I never heard of anyone staying at these accommodations having an issue with the water, I never drank anything but bottled water. After a bout of dysentery in Egypt many years ago, my digestive...
  13. Q

Happy Thanksgiving to all US pilgrims!

Turkey is browning up nicely. Just a reminder from home for all your Americans on the Camino. Happy Thanksgiving
  14. Q

2 stamps per day Camino de Invierno

I think the two stamps a day rule is only for those doing the 100km routes. All others need only one stamp a day at most. If you have taken an exceptionally long route as you have I don’t think you need fret about stamping except perhaps at lodgings.
  15. Q

Second short Camino Tui to Santiago

We stayed in small hotels or inns on the CF. Always with private rooms with baths. We are at an age that we need the sleep and privacy. Do you have any recommendations on places you stayed.
  16. Q

Second short Camino Tui to Santiago

Good to know. We are going in either late august or early September

  18. Q

Second short Camino Tui to Santiago

Thanks, I’ll put it on our itinerary. Planning on two nights in Pontevedra
  19. Q

Second short Camino Tui to Santiago

Finished my first short Camino, Sarria to Santiago, and now planning my second, the Portuguese from Tui to Santiago. I would appreciate any advice on lodgings, restaurants and historical and archeological sites worth visiting. Time is not an issue and I’m planning nine days with an extra day in...
