Those who have walked at least one Camino - What are your favorite insoles and why?

I have good orthotic insoles, designed for my feet. Before I walked my first Camino in 2011, I went to a Chiropodist, who analyzed my feet and recommended the best footwear for long-distance walking. I'm glad I did because I have had very few foot problems in all my eight Caminos and other...

Pocket coin pouch for those EU coins?

This is exactly what I use instead of a purse in my everyday life - and on the Camino. There is space for a few folded bills and cards (drivers license, membership cards, etc.) in the main section and space for coins in the smaller sections. It fits in my pocket and it is much sturdier than I...

Ideas please on where to start further back in France, before SJPP

A friend and I did this several years ago - we walked from Arles to Puente la Reina. It is more expensive, of course, with fewer municipal albergues, as I remember, but it was a good trail and interesting terrain. I love the Camino Frances, but I am glad that I had the Arles/Aragones experience.

    Happy Christmas Day

Merry Christmas from Waterloo, Ontario, Canada!

I like the snow falling on our posts.

No snow here in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada...just dense overcast skies and 4C. Merry Christmas, anyway!

Earthquake in Santiago? Yes, it happened earlier today.

I, too, was thinking that a 3.3 quake was just a little rattle, then I read your comment! I lived in West L.A. when there was a 4.5 quake and all my dishes rattled, but no damage, and I lived in Pasadena CA when the 7.2 quake struck in Northridge early one morning, several miles away; the...

    The Elvis Bar in Reliegos

Yep! That's who I thought it was - quite a character!

Rocky terrain from Cruz de Ferro to?

I have walked the Camino Frances many times and the path coming down from the Cruz de Ferro is the worst - most difficult and treacherous - of any part of the CF. I vowed last time that I will NEVER walk that part again. All the rest of the CF is easily walkable.

LIVE from the Camino Welcoming pilgrims at Arrés

I have enjoyed reading your posts from Arrés. I have walked the Camino Frances several times and once I walked the Arles Aragones Camino...and I have been a hospitalera eight times. Walking and working on the Camino are fantastic experiences. Thanks for sharing yours! Enjoy the next chapter...

Picking grapes from vineyards along the way

AND...they have been sprayed with pesticides.

Current food/drink prices on the Camino Frances, and Trail Angels

I remember the crepe lady and also the band of young girls wanting money in the woods.

    Hotel near Madrid airport

When coming and going from the Camino, I usually stay in Madrid at the Urban Sea Atocha 113, located on Atocha Street at #113. It is a simple, but clean and friendly hotel, and reasonably priced, considering the location. It is a short walk uphill to the Plaza Mayor and an even shorter walk...

    Mosquitoes and Flies

I have walked the Camino Frances several times and I was only bothered by flies once on a walk in the fall, just after the expansive farm fields were 'turned over,' which disturbed the flies nesting in the soil. They were everywhere and it was hard to breathe or speak without ingesting one or...

    Hiking poles vs staff

I agree! I like the freedom and rhythm of walking, unencumbered by a wooden staff or a pole. But I always use one pole when the terrain is rocky and/or steep to keep my balance.

Food on the Camino, what do you miss?

Lucky you!!! I miss the tortilla....and the cafe con leche grande.

    Anyone starting out of Salamanca?

Try the municipal albergue. They were available when I was a hospitalera there a few years ago.

Recommendations for Warm and Comfortable Shoes in Town during October

Before I walked my first Camino many years ago, my chiropractor asked to see the shoes I planned to wear after arriving at the days' destination. At my next appointment, I showed him my Ecco walking sandals, which he approved. He said that the shoes or sandals that you wear after walking in...
