Thanks so much for your insight, everyone!! Wow, I love this forum. Always so great to discuss things from others who have first-hand experience and advice.
Ha, funnily enough I was talking to someone this morning on the Frances who was bitten on the hand by a dog a few days ago and was taking anti-biotics for it. On the Le Puy trail I was freaked out by the farm dogs that come at you out of nowhere and definitely looked at them in the eye (forgot...
Yes, I've done the same! I'm an over-preparer, so I've downloaded maps on AllTrails, wikiloc, and Wise Pilgrim haha. I was hiking the Frances but got a bit bored so am very excited to do the Salvador! A bit nervous about the accounts of aggressive dogs and potentially problematic terrain, but...
Okay update - been thoroughly immersed in this forum while waiting at the train station and saw the Salvador Guide you posted on another thread. Very informative!
Thanks so much for your detailed reply, @peregrina2000 ! I saw on a couple of other threads some mentions of alternate routes to take that are better than what was originally there and feel a bit overwhlemed by all the information. Would you say it's generally okay if I follow the yellow arrows...
Hi pilgrims, I'm going to hike the Camino del Salvador this week and plan on doing it in roughly 5 days.
I wanted to seek out insight into the safety of the route for the start of October. I read on another thread that albergues were often full each night at the end of August. Can anyone...
I use AllTrails and it is accurate 80-90% of the time. Occasionally the trail shows the variant or the trail just isn't totally accurate, but that's infrequent.
I just had a look on the app now and it has the Primitivo - as a full trail or in stages.
I like it because you can download the maps...
Heya, good luck on your camino!
I used leukotape, but honestly, any sort of sport tape works for me. I've used lots of different types. They work superbly if you need to tape your foot or knee for muscle support as well. Just be aware of allergic reactions - some tape I have to take off before...
Heya Anne, nice of you to ask! I completed the Le Puy trail and am continuing on the Camino Frances in a couple of days!
I ended up catching a taxi back to le Puy-en-Velay, buying bigger hiking shoes and hiking sandals, and staying 2 days to heal the blisters. When I returned to the trail I...
Yeah, I was gonna say...1L/stage? That's honestly scary. I just finished about 8.5 hours of hiking in 29-degree weather on le chemin de st Jacques and I drank about 3.5L (filled up one time) - and I *still* ran out of water before arriving to my gîte.
I'm guessing you mean you only need to...
Yesss, I've been taught about lacing a couple of times but I always forget how, so I just tied it like a normal shoe haha. I definitely didn't think much about remembering to push my heel into the back of the shoe and tie it in an ideal way for hiking. Off to watch some videos and actually learn...
(my final statements, bear with me. I have lots to say haha)
Re: clothing...even after 1 day, people do smell quite a bit 😂 one trick I read online is that you can hand-wash with some soap in a dry bag, if you have one. (In case there are different terms for different countries - like a...
Oh no! What an awful feeling, and let me tell you, I felt exactly the same way before the Camino I'm on now! Worried about hiking alone, making friends, getting injuries, finding GF food in smaller towns.
It would be naive to think you won't have occasional challenges, but for me at least, it's...
That sounds absolutely brutal. Just based on the pain of washing my exposed blisters after the roof ripping off, this is hard to read 🥲 I'm impressed you finished your walk!
There seem to be two teams of thought - either diehard compeed fans ("don't let it dry out! Let it do it's thing!") and...
Mmm yeah it's an interesting point. I've heard a lot of pros/cons between the different makes. I have Bridgedale and Smartwool socks for this trip, the lightweight hiker versions. I misspoke by saying "thick wool socks" - it's just that the Bridgedale socks seem more padded than the Smartwool...
