    July clothes

Lori, although it was our intention to do the Cele route it was so hot in Figeac that the thought of all the climbing really phased me. I suffer from cooking feet if the weather is hot and doing the Cele in those temperatures at the rate required to honour my friends finish date was too much...

    July clothes

Yes pretty warm Heather. The only coolish part was leaving Le Sauvage(?) one of the higher points on the walk. I was a misty morning and cooler but I was soon toasty having my Paramo on top of my shirt for an hour. Don't mean to hijack your thread but I have little French and met up the night...

    July clothes

Walked last week to Cahors from Le Puy (no not in a week) and wore shorts the whole time. Very hot in Cahors last week up to 34 so too hot for me. Don't think you're going to be cold. BTW on 2 days I used the umbrella as a parasol, was able to walk in the shade then.

    Le Puy in May

Looks like I kick off on the 28th, hoping to finish in Pamplona but who knows. Looking forward to meeting folk on the way.

    suddenly scared

Hi Laelia, it is time and your own will that make things whole again. Don't expect to do it all now, its too soon. Take opportunities when you can, welcome friends even though sometimes you will be let down. By the time September comes you will be stronger and the Camino will help to focus your...

    Le Puy in May

FWIW I'm starting from Le Puy later in May. Hoping for the holiday rush to be reducing slightly. Will be carrying my little tent as I expect the gites will be heaving and at least I will have the option to camp. The good thing I think will be that it will be easy to make friends along the way...

    Disappointed with my hiking shoes

Just to add, my personal experiences with Goretex have not been so good in spite of numerous optimistic purchases. Natural leather boots have in the past been a little more successful (and waterproof) but mainly in cooler climbs. My main problem is that I get wet from the inside. Perspiration...

    Disappointed with my hiking shoes

'Light' and 'lots of ventilation' would really float my boat :) I'll try some for the fit o_O

    Disappointed with my hiking shoes

And I was beginning to think it was only me who had the hot feet problem. My first pair of Moabs failed allowing water to pour in (or out on demonstration) and Merrel replaced them although they were just over a year old. Sadly the replacements also failed in the same way only after a couple of...

    Simply jumping into the abyss...

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back-- Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All...

    Sweaty Feet!

This is also a BIG problem for me in warm weather, with normal boots my feet are sodden in 2 to 3 hours. Keeping my feet cool in sandals and shorts does make a big difference but there is little that works when the weather is hot. For a few years I used (very effectively) a soaking regime of...

    Tablets with built-in GPS function

Something a little strange happening here - received email notifying me of a reply from jhpdx but I cannot see it here so I'll copy it in "looked at Samsung's Galaxy Note 3 specs (below) and do not see that it has a GPS receiver. It does say that it will do 'GPS Navigation'. What is not clear...

    Tablets with built-in GPS function

Have any of you tried Orux maps on Android? I have been using it for over a year in UK with OS maps (now sadly unavailable for free) at 25000 scale for all my walking. It has been extremely reliable and in my mind has astonishing functionality for a free app. Currently on my Note 2 when I view...

    Which Osprey backpack?

No longer use a bladder after getting mine contaminated in storage. Now use half litre bottles that are easily removed and replaced in my Exos 46. Zip pockets on belt for wallet, sweets etc, phone and walking pole storage on the move just makes things easy. A light comfortable and well thought...

    Anyone from Yorkshire/Leeds (UK)....

Interesting Nathan, I fancy doing the section from Le Puy to Pamplona, just trying to pluck up the courage now. Happy to share some thoughts with you should wish to get in touch. Yorkshire based Camino activity? Sounds good to me.

    Another Backpack recommendation request

The Exos 46 is so well thought out in use on the move. Carries my lightweight camping gear, clothing and food, is comfortable and gives easy access to bottles, phone, pole etc without taking it off. Try one obviously but I am so pleased with mine, even got a few quid off it last year in Cotswolds.
