My Buen Camino app is crashing!!

    Me too today in Spain!

    Which route out of Ourense?

We stood at the spot with two arrows on the ground and tossed a coin. Literally. We went steep.

Monasterio de San José de Alloz

I was not planning on being on the forum while I am walking, but I want to highly recommend this monastery. I have just spent a week here, although it is more common for pilgrims to just spend one night (during the week a French and Spanish pilgrim did exactly that) You get a private room with a...

    Tomorrow is the day! Yesssssss!!!!!!!!!!!

See you in Pamplona for breakfast! I’m one eleven hour flight down and have made it to Singapore. Another 11 hour flight which has been delayed and hopefully I will make my connecting flight to Madrid!

Achilles heel flare up and 5 weeks to go :-(

After walking caminos where I comfortably tackled 35km, 40km, imagine my consternation to get tendinitis in both Achilles and not be able to walk even 1km! That was six months ago and I’ve been doing strength exercises for the legs and gluteus maximus under professional guidance. No meds for...

    Camino de San Salvador

I’ve only walked it twice but both times had other pilgrims around each night. There are lots of arrows - hard to miss!

    Locoid cream

Is it possible to buy locoid cream over the counter in a pharmacia? It’s the one thing I might need - but most likely won’t - and if I knew I could get it easily in Spain I would not take any.

    Metro-style map of the Caminos

I think it’s very cool (is there a map that’s not to love?) AND at the same time I find an irony in walking paths being portrayed as public transport!!!

The one thing I should have done before I left for the Camino

@JillGat are you for real? I had second thoughts about asking my husband to keep my sourdough starter alive - I want to be able to go on another Camino!! So I have dehydrated it and I’ve made half a dozen loaves of bread to leave in the freezer. The job I almost forgot about - freezing holds...

    Basic necessities on the trail

Someone is going to suggest you could just take all those things yourself and use a pack transfer service! Not intending to rain on your parade, just considering alternatives before you invest significant euros in this venture!! And maybe the title could do with being changed from necessities to...

    The Future Path

@MARSKA would you be comfortable deciding when you arrive? I haven't looked at weather forecasts, but now that you tell me the first ten days might be wet, I'll be so glad to be holed up in the monastery at Alloz for a week;-)

    Over Planning Again

Oh, @Robo after the rice cooker, I was wondering what on earth you could be considering taking this time. I'll just say I loved the Sanabres way more than the way from Tui BUT it's very likely Queen Robo would like the other if she's not fond of hills. Have you explained that generally speaking...

Via de la Plata - Recumbent...?

@gerardcarey you are most welcome! The pleasure was mine in the walking, is still mine in the remembering - and is multiplied in the sharing.

Voice or data only mobile plans

I have sent you a Private Message! I think so - I didn’t actually check. I don’t tend to book in advance and so it is not really an issue for me. I have booked a handful of places for my first week so I can walk really short days - the ones that want confirmation want to use WhatsApp.

    Have you used Aíralo?

Can certainly do that. I leave in a week and will be back at the end of June. I’m planning to be off the forum but might sneak on for an update after a couple of weeks

Voice or data only mobile plans

You might try Roamless which will allow you both (voice calls are 2c per minute in Spain) and you top up as you go, so no need to work out what size data package to buy. I just signed up yesterday. I can send you a referral code which will get you a bonus $3, plus they are currently giving you...

    Have you used Aíralo?

Thanks so much for all your assistance. My techno-savvy son came for dinner and convinced me to use Roamless- we both got a $3 bonus if I signed up!! It is not restricted to one country or area, and you only pay for what you use - so no trying to work out which size data plan to pick. Any money...

    Have you used Aíralo?

Usually I buy an Orange SIMcard when I arrive in Spain and that has always served me well. However this time I am considering getting an eSIM before I leave. It seems Aíralo is the best value. Does anyone have any experience with them and do you know of any drawbacks? Obviously I could not text...

Via de la Plata - Recumbent...?

Do it!!!! Yes, you can do it.

Via de la Plata - Recumbent...?

And some more for luck... But before you decide it's too hard, check out what joy it brings.... (crazy father, crazy son!) And the father-in-law/Grandpa who was "only" 83 back then and recovering from spinal surgery!
