Thanks for the kind words from those who have wished me a speedy recovery. I'm nearly there.
Having lived in South America, much of the Middle East, South Asia including India and Afghanistan and traveled very widely across the developing world, I would consider myself somewhat of an expert on...
Tee tree oil. On my sleeping bag etc. natural and works as regular insect repellant too without the chemicals! I've got a lot of mozzie bites from the nights I haven't used it in hotels.
Thanks, been to the doctor now in burgos. He said it could be the fountains and warned me not to drink from them....some people are more sensitive than others. He said it could be a virus too. Got rehydration salts, drugs and he gave me fluids to help with dehydration which had gone a bit too...
hi peregrinos,
I'm walking the camino France's at the moment and have come down with a very bad tummy bug. I'm pretty sure I got it from drinking in the fountains between Puenta la reina and Azofra somewhere. Of course it could have been from food somewhere too but I tend to think it's from...
Hi Deb....kept an eye out for you girls last night but couldn't' remember where we were meeting. If I can figure out how to send you a private message on this I will...if you can send me one! Love to catch up for a drink. Feeling much better this morning and it's my birthday so extra chipper! XxxA
Thank you all so much. I'm thinking of just walking to uterga tomorrow, and going very slow. And stopping even sooner if I need to. I've lightened my bag, treated my blister and had a good rest this evening. Feeling a bit more heartened, mostly by your words of encouragement.
Thank you all so...
All such great advice! Day two has kicked my butt! In pamplona, probably walked too fast and my pack too heavy, plus a bit of jet lag and I am whipped! Blisters coming up on the side of my heels so will be attending to them as soon as I can lift my head off the bed. It was a hot day today...
Wow! First day from Roncevalles to zubiri done! What a gorgeous walk. So many friendly peregrinos and such magnificent scenery! I'm staying at El Palo de Avellano - lovely rooms, great feeling to it. I took advice from the forum and soaked my feet in the cold river upon arrival...manna from...
Buenos Dias!
I start my camino tomorrow from Roncevalles! Just some last minute questions....leaving madrid early this morning and wondering what I need to take with me to Roncevalles....sounds like there's nothing available there at all? Should I pick up water, snacks etc before arrival...
I've now decided on a pair of Ahnu goretex hiking shoes and a pair of Solomon hiking boots after hours of research and a long chat with an expert. Australia is so expensive for kit so have purchased on Amazon then will send back the pair I don't want.
I'll still have a month to break them in...
Hi vagabondo,
Thanks for that!! All my shoes and boots are for snow etc and I much prefer a lighter shoe! Good to hear a positive experience. I start late September through October!!
Hi!!
I have been having a few problems with a very trusty old pair of scarpa hiking shoes, getting really sore toes. So I'm looking in to new shoes and thinking I'd prefer something much lighter. I'm looking at saloman shoes... I've used them before, like a cross between a sneaking and a...
I'm taking my iPhone and my iPad...
Don't intend to sit around playing on them but so handy when away for long stretches!
This is a bit like confession!

Hello everyone!!
I finally starting training for my camino properly today... I start late September. I've had pneumonia so haven't been able to exercise for some time. Anyway, managed 10kms today and I discovered a fantastic app for smartphone users. It's called MapMyWalk and it's free, and...
I'm bringing a pair of scarpa hiking shoes that I've worn for a few years and a pair of teva sandals. I'm seriously thinking of bringing super lite Nike running shoes too! They're great to walk in and well ventilated. I'm walking in late September and October!
