All replies are so inspiring! I walked into Santiago on my 65th birthday, Nov 4th, having done ~3 weeks on the Frances. God willing, I hope to walk into Santiago again on my 75th birthday, Nov 4, 2024! 😃 I’ve walked various routes every year in between (except Covid!) so just trying to decide...
Best of luck to you & blessings to you that the good Lord walks with you. I walked into Santiago on my 65th birthday and I'm hoping next year to walk in on my 75th birthday - the good Lord willing! Keep us posted on your progress.
I just came through there early this month. The Albergue is closed but the guy that runs the bar is also the taxi driver. He took us to Taberna do Vento in Botos. You can then taxi back to cover those missed K’s. Last year he took a friend of mine from there to Silleda.
Just an add-on to this comment - I got back a week ago from the Camino & we walked on to Finisterre. We did not have time to walk to Muxia but I wanted my first timer friend to see it so I searched taxis here. I found a link to Ismael Montero Lago, Taxi Fisterra. He picked me up at the...
Just an observation for those on or headed to the Via de la Plata or Sanabres. We spent 5 days from Salamanca to Montamarta just past Zamora (doing short stages). The second night in El Cubo we encountered ~20 pilgrims & they dispersed from there - we saw 1 of those on night 4 and 2 others on...
We got here today & yes, the Plaza Mayor is only 15 - 20 minutes walking from the bus station. The hotel doesn’t just jump out at you but we finally found it. Thanks for your input!
Thanks. I did look it up on google maps but I wasn't sure about which bus station we would arrive. It was pretty straight forward & only said about 16 minutes. We are staying at Hospedium Plaza Mayor.
I will be arriving in Madrid Sunday morning and taking a bus directly from the airport to Salamanca. I've looked at the maps but I'm not sure which bus station we will be arriving. We are staying in the old town and trying to figure out how far it is. Not sure whether to try to walk with jet...
I went from Bilbao to Santiago in September 2016. The Spanish & other Europeans are still taking holiday in September at the larger coastal towns, so you might want to book ahead on the weekends.
Last October, I did this exact couple of days. Torre Vilarino was awesome! The climb down to the river was tough but some locals gave me fresh figs which helped on the climb up by the winery where I was offered a taste of wine, but settled for a stamp! I had a great personal sized fresh...
Thanks - that is pretty much our route to a T! We made it to Guillena today. We are only going as far as Caceres this trip so we are not taking any rest days. Buen Camino!
Started today to do ~2 1/2 weeks on the Via de la Plata trying to stay under 20K days. The guide says 10K to Santiponce but I think from Hotel Simon close to the cathedral, it adds a couple of K’s. This is not scientific, so please don’t ask me to prove. 🥴
We mis-read an arrow coming into...
Yeah, snorers can be an issue. After my first Camino in 2012, the Frances, & several albergues with no sleep, we switched to albergues with private rooms or small hotels. On all my caminos since, I only stay in the “famous” albergues (& yes I know there are wonderful ones every where) or if...
