Demographic of VDLP pilgrim in recent years

Roughly, I've seen a bit more than 20 pilgrims this year, 8 of which were female but I might have miscounted as this is from memory. Ages fairly mixed. But yeah, sample size is small, if I hadnt briefly met a mother walking with her two daughters, my statistics would already be quite different.

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

I'm in Puebla de Sanabria by now, some remarks about the camino since I last posted. Carcaboso - Aldeanueva del Camino: very nice stage but the 10kms before finca venta quemada were quite hard because the camino was very wet when I was there. I think that scarred me slightly because I have...

The donativo mentioned on gronze is open (one/two weeks ago) and is a fine choice.

Accommodation Options Between Caceres and Salamanca

Casar de Cáceres: I stayed at the private one in the picture and it's more a hostal (private rooms or maybe sharing with one or two other pilgrims if you walk together) than an albergue, I'd say. Not bad though and casar was a more pleasant town than I'd expected. As far as I know, the main...

LIVE from the Camino From Salamanca to Santiago

Buen camino! I'll be 3 days behind you in leaving from Salamanca so I'm definitely wishing you good weather as well! 😅

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

On that regard, I feel there are fewer larger towns between Cáceres and Salamanca than on the earlier stages. Or maybe it's just that I paid less attention to it then. I'd double check if you have enough cash leaving Cáceres (I'm not running out completely but it's a closer call than it should...

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

Update from the vdlp Casar de Cáceres - Cañaveral: lovely and dry stage, one of my favourite so far. The arrows alongside the embalse felt a bit ambiguous, maybe to allow the choice between the road and the GR (both had arrows, I think). I definitely recommend following the GR (camino natural...

    New route into Guillena

Are those current pictures? Thats crazy. 10 days ago there was very little water there and I've seen some rain the last days but nothing too crazy (maybe it rained harder at night). I remember the split, but the reroute wasnt clear at all for me there. I think I thought there might just have...

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

Buen camino Giorgio! I remarked as well yesterday that the rain from the past days has made the trail a lot wetter. Keeping my feet dry on the stage Alcuescar-Cáceres was impossible (for me), even though I gave it a good try at the start: a spanish pilgrim that I met early on in the day asked if...

    Torres/Geira vs VdlP/Sanabres

Thanks so much! Really interesting to read! :) If I'm still not 100% convinced which one when approaching Salamanca, I like the idea of the coin toss. But it's been fun thinking about the options while walking indeed. In any case, whatever I end up picking, I'll probably keep the other one...

    Torres/Geira vs VdlP/Sanabres

I'm walking towards Salamanca on the via de la plata and only recently discovered on this forum that the camino Torres existed. I've taken a brief look at some of the threads here but I didnt really see a comparison between the combo of Torres & Geira and continuing on the via de la plata and...

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

Might be useful to know for you and for whomever is walking this week: At the albergue extranatura in Vilafranca de los barros, the first door was open but inside there was a paper hanging that said that the albergue was closed until Feb 15th. I moved to Hotel Diana which was close by but more...

LIVE from the Camino VDLP update feb 2024

Thanks, John. I'll be following this topic with interest if only to discover where I went wrong or followed an old path (before Guillena I walked over the beam) I met John in Guillena but afterwards we haven't seen each other much and now we're on different stages. I agree with what he's...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

I'm happy to help. I cant seem to copy it but it's on post #26 in this thread under day 3: umwanderts gate. Closed but not locked and a local told me to go through. Although I did record gps while walking, it was not with anything that I (think that I) can easily share (at least not from my...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

Yeah, it's mainly walking across the bridge but could be 800m. It was cheaper than Hostal Sabana on the day I was there and had good reviews so I didnt mind walking a bit more. And I ended up quite liking it. That Said, Hostal Sabana was also available and I remember others on here found it to...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

Nothing really to do at the Cueva del Gato: you're not supposed to enter the cave system without a guide and equipment, so I did not. It's a popular swimming spot as well apparently but not in january. The only reason I went to have a short look was because there were a lot of signs on the...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

Thanks. I might be more tired than I thought though, there were some small remarks about the route that I had planned to include. Aside: I use an app to generate gpx routes between two points, on the map of this app the via serrana was indicated so I tried to generate an gpx as close to that as...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

I was a bit wary about high expectations, but oh boy was this a wonderful day of walking. 😍 So far I stayed in Ochomin Hostel, la hacienda de don Luís, Hotel Restaurante las buitreras and now I'm in hotel rural Inz Almaraz in Jimena de Líbar. All of them seemed pretty good to me (almost all...

    Questions about the Vía Serrana

I'm in el Colmenar now. My experiences of day 1-3: Day 1 gate: no acrobatics needed, the gate in question was only closed by two pieces of rope and could easily be opened (and closed). The chain on the picture was not there for me. Day 1 water passage: way less water than on Umwanderts...
