Following other responses - 1. Halifax Clarity has a good app which shows pending and older transactions which means you can track your expenditure. 2. Avoid Santander ATMs - charge 5 euros to use their machines. Abanca are the best!
I used cash + cc. If you have time a Halifax Clarity card is worth getting as there are no additional transaction or atm fees to pay. Last year many places such as restaurants, etc accepted Cc + i used it to pay for albergues via Booking. A good bank to use is Abanca which has branches in large...
For the British. I had a halifax clarity card which had no fees on ATM transactions or purchases + the rate was good. The ATM I always used for cash was Abanca - which also didn't add any transaction charges - also the case for other non EU visitors.
I remember walking through the wood and enjoyed the peace and quiet until I came across the quirky rest stop with music. I walked straight on as it seemed quite incongruous in this setting. What may seem appealing to a pilgrim/tourist visiting once and moving on, may be viewed quite differently...
I walked the camno frances solo the whole way allowing me to pause where and whe n I wanted including nearly a week in Leon. This would have made meeting up with a "family" from the start difficult if not impossible but I preferred it - certainly less stressful. Being alone you could decide...
I would label myself a introvert and walked the camino frances from mid May to end of June last year. Looking for solitude was relatively easy from SJPP TO Saria (after saria it can get busy). You will encounter people on the way but there is no need to feel you must be part of a "family" it is...
I purchased:
The Reverend Sandy Brown
Camino de Santiago: Camino Frances: Guide and map book - includes Finisterre finish (Cicerone Guides
This included a detailed guide + pocket sized atlas split into about 34 stages - giving maps elevation profiles for each stage. I left the guide at home but...
The one thing if would change is having a single route for cyclists and walkers.
I agree and good you said it. There is a whole network of rural roads which could form the basis of a cycle route. With the increase in cyclists and walkers on the camino this would be a sensible development.
I did the camino frances 17/5/23 to 30/6/23. First time but ( except for the final 100km) never found it particularly over crowded - and it was good to meet some people on the way anyway.. Weather wise it was good - warm enough at night not to need a sleeping bag, Out in the rain to get drenched...
Burgos - in addition to the cathedral I visited the excellent museum of human evolution which is based around the Neanderthal discoveries found at Atapurca which is also on the camino (before burgos) and the excavations can be visited. In walking distance from the centre of burgos is Covento de...
I would second la laguna - albergue la escuela. Friendly owners. Very small place but so peaceful with beautiful views of the mountains. One of my favourite places on the camino frances.
I did it May 17th to 30th June last year and a great time to do it. Some hot days, only one really wet day, but most of the time dry and pleasant. The camino is often bordered by wild flowers at that time of year You will meet plenty of people and if you are on your own can walk at a speed you...
June 2023
Burgos
Hornillos del Camino
Castrojeriz
Boadilla de Camino
Carrión de los Condes
Moratinos
Bercianos del Real Camino
Reliegos
León
Castrojeriz (and the route into the town) was one of my favourite places. The views from the castle are magnificent and well worth a stop.
I am aged 63, reasonably fit and found SJPP to Roncesvalles quite doable. Walked at a speed I was comfortable with, made regular stops to enjoy the views/take photos. Had sufficient water though in mid May temperature/dehydration was not an issue. The main thing was - I had my backpack sent...
Did my first camino frances sjpp to Santiago may to June 2023. Did not use poles and never felt there was an opportunity to need/use them. Agree about the photography comments which also meant I had my backpack taken ahead making the walking more enjoyable. I treated down hill stoney paths with...
When I was in Belorado, the town's infomatiion boards mentioned the estaishment of a Jewish neighbourhood (el corro) below tte castle.

I am on my first camino and have experienced some of your issues. I have found that the next day something new and often better will come along. I have had some lonely moments but then the next day met some of the nicest people possible (I.e agree with me lol). Keep on going and Buen camino.
