Good luck ros1946, i walked last winter and started from sevilla on the 3rd of february all the way to sdc without any problems. As mentioned by peregrino2000 and information from peregrinos who reached sdc, there has not been any robberies committed at the start of the camino from sevilla or...
as mentioned by other pilgrims, it is safe for any women to walk the vdlp. the robbers out of gulleina were caught in camas, sevilla and so far i have not heard of any robberies committed in the province of sevilla. i am a man and walked the vdlp alone this past february. as also mentioned the...
hello riatolken,
i hope you have a nice christmas.
yes the weather will definiely be good in june to walk the vdlp. on the negative side it maybe a little bit too warm in the first half of the camino. the two routes, imho, are quite different from each other. you will not meet as many...
Pam,
Just be very careful crossing the arroyos. If it rains, you might encountered many more temporary streams (???) as some of the paths will be inundated with water. Be very careful when crossing the arroyos (some of the water in the arroyos were as high as 3 feet while i was doing the vdlp...
I think you will enjoyed more the vdlp from salamanca. Also in galicia most of the xunta albergues are opened in the winter. And as mentioned previously it is only 500 kilometers to sdc. I have done the vdlp also in the winter from sevilla.
Buen camino.
Hello pamela,
The best time is at the beginning of may. As mentioned by saint mike as to all the plus points i do not need to repeat. I assume you speak spanish, this is even an extra advantage as many of the pueblos inhabitants do not speak much english.
I did the via de la plata this past...
Hello alanb,
I have on one occasion allowed a husband and wife team of peregrenos with a loving dog walking with a group to pitch a tent in our beautiful enclosed garden. Even though it is against our rules and regulations, i allowed the dog to stay outside our garden on compassionate ground...
Hello rosefield,
I am sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you will recover soon and be able to do what you wanted to do- that is doing the vdlp. Be on the side of optimism as you are irish. My thoughts are with you.
Good luck. Buen camino and god bless.
Hello jenny,
Definitely do the vdlp through sanabres to ourense. Or you could even cut across to portugal and then come back into spain from braganza to go to sdc.
Buen camino and god bless.
Hello mindgap,
Must you do the camino in august? If not, go for it in april. I believe you will enjoy it very much. You will most likely meet many peregrinas from europe on your walk from sevilla. And do stay in sevilla for a couple of nights to enjoy the beautiful city. If you are a historical...
Hello cejanus,
I would not let the age barrier worries you. I walked the vdlp this past winter from sevilla to sdc a couple of months shy of my 70th birthday in 36 walking days with stopover in merida and salamanca, which is halfway distance. Even in the winter, the weather was warm but...
hello jenny,
how about starting halfway on the vdlp from salamanca? as mentioned by any peregrino who has walked the vdlp, you will see the real spain. although you will not meet many peregrinos, which are mostly europeans. i would highly recommended you start in sevilla, the weather is...
hello jenny,
if you do the vdlp, i would recommend you do the sanabres via ourense to sdc. the camino branched off in granja de moreruela. and the best time to do it is probably the start of april. this is where the vdlp is most beautiful. and also all the albergues will be opened. i did it...
never have trouble in my vdlp from sevilla to santiago this past february except on one occasion. approaching grimaldi, i have encountered 2 nasty small dogs came out of the garden and one of them bit into my pant. i believe the path is very close to the house where the dogs live. the large...
do stop by at the museo del jamon in monesterio to get a good education on jamon iberico. and be careful about crossing the arroyos (streams).
buen camino. god bless.
hello sirjohnharington,
good to hear that you made it to embalse de alcantara without any problems. keep us posted.
the good news from peregrina2000 is that the guardia civil has arrested 2 person in cama just outside of sevilla while robbing a canadian peregrino. as laurie has mentioned...
Hello Lizzie,
Welcome to the forum.
Correction as mentioned bt saint mike ii, the minimum walking distance is 100 kilometres. However i would like to add this, you must collect two stamps minimum per day for the last 100 kilometres to santiago. This is due to the fact that the staff at the...
