Open at the municipal in Nájera and ready to welcome you!

Living and working on the Camino

You aren’t alone in this! The tricky part is getting paid/making a living. I left Sao Pedro de Rates today after 2 weeks, they welcome longer term volunteers in winter. Becoming a blogger with sponsored posts is a viable way to work location independent on The Way. Mix it in with free housing...

    Passport in albergue?

Big signs in Xunta albergues "No Photocopies" and hotels will need it. Europeans have national identity cards which are a great idea.

American host in El Burgo Rañero

On my way there now, I'll be volunteering Aug. 1-15. Stop and say hi, stay the night, have a cup of tea. Looking forward to this new camino adventure!

Transportation from Santiago to St. Jean, Pied de Port?

Well done @Castilian. There's a gîte in Hendaye, in the town center a 10 minute walk from the train station.

    Just back....lessons learned

You have hiking sticks-the dog doesn't! I own dogs over 50 pounds each, they would be no match for titanium hiking poles. A bit of cheese tossed aside works great too. You are walking through their turf.

SO here is my not very well thought out plan...

Go to Cauterets, visit Pont d'Espagne and the awesome thermal baths, walk to Buzy. Or, walk from Lourdes to Oloron St. Marie. Bon chemin! @Chacharm

    Just thinking . . .

Commune has the same root meaning as community, and pilgrims are indeed a community. Thanks for the thought @Anniesantiago

    Appropriate attire inside church

Thank you so much for asking! Yes, all of the above. I will add that reviewing the etiquette (I don't want a debate over "rules") for receiving Holy Communion is worthwhile. There are priests stationed in confessionals throughout the cathedral in Santiago with little signs stating what...

Good Things That Happen On the Camino

@Anniesantiago this is the best how to-and how not to- be a great Hospitalero manual! I will take all of the good with me when I volunteer in Léon in August 2016.

    The Rules

Euskotren! Little electric train from Hendaye to Bilbao.

LIVE from the Camino When your Camino doesn't go 'as planned'

Oh Katrina, I am with you! My son got horrible strep in Bilbao. ER visit and hotel stay. I blew out my MCL before Oviedo. Done. But we got ourselves to SdC, cried and prayed. Now we are in France, miraculously close to the Chemin de Puy. Damn those who have mocked you! Rest. Heal. The path will...

LIVE from the Camino Lost ipod between Pobeña and Castro yesterday

My son lost his ipod yesterday after Ontón. It's in a blue case with my name on it and his on the ipod itself. If you are behind me and see it, please message me. I told him I'd try! Heading westward on the norte

LIVE from the Camino Albergue Ettiquette

I'm only concerned about the public, um, romance as I'm traveling with a child. I suppose I should practice, "keep it going and you'll have one (child) too" in several languages. The rest will be a life lesson in tolerance for us both, I hope.
