    Starting in Late Aug

In my opinion it is a great time to start. In 2013 I completed the Camino Frances on 10/01/2013. We had started on August 24,2013. There was less crowds, and the weather was perfect. I totally agree that it does get more crowded after Serria, but I still think it is the best time to go.

    Over 65

Just a few last suggestions. Stop and stay in Orrisson. It a great place to stop after your first day. Otherwise be prepared to walk up to 25km on the first day fr. ST. Jean Pied de Port to Roncesvalles. A lot of people may disagree with me, but if your backpack starts hurting your back you may...

    Over 65

I am over 65 and I walked the Camino in 2013. I found that your shoes are very, very, very important. I am not really a walker although when I knew that we were going on the Camino I did start to walk. I walked at the neighborhood park for about 30 mins, three times a week. I did this for about...

Help for the unfit! How many hours from Orisson to Roncesvalles?

Let me start by saying that I as a walker am a turtle. As a slow walker I am always stopping to smell the flowers and look at the scenery. My advise to you is watch the weather and definitely stay in Orrison for the night. Have a great Camino. Buen Camino.

    Oopss; I did it again...

Happy trails to you. You are sooo blessed to live so close and be able to go whenever you want. Buen Camino.

La Citadelle in St Jean Pied-de-Port

Great video. When we arrived in St Jean pied deport we did not realize that the Citadel was not that far from the pilgrims office. We mistakenly took the long way which brought us into the Citadel from the other side by climbing over 200 steps from the town below. We had our backpacks on too. We...

It is with a heavy heart....

My sympathy for your loss and because you can not go on your Camino in 2016. I know it is a very hard time in your life. You may be in a better place when you actually go on your Camino. Although I am not going through the loss of family, I too had to cancel my late August plans to go on my...

Feeling a little judged from other commenters so...

In my opinion, while it is true that OP is trying to advoid the albergue experience I was trying to suggest that OP might open up to private pensions. They are small, clean ( for the most part ), and have a little more privacy. I am sure that you would agree that private pensions give a...

Feeling a little judged from other commenters so...

I really don't know why you would feel judged. If you only have two weeks then that's all you have. Make the most of it. No one is standing on the side of the road with a clipboard in hand stating that you are not a pilgrim because you do 100km at a time. Just take the time you have and enjoy...

Walking the Pyrenees with pre teens all unfit.

Love you spontaneous spirit! You will do fine, but very tired the first week. A person gains strength as they go along. If by saying pre-teen you mean 11 or 12 years old, they will drink all your water and eat all your snacks. Lol. They should do fine. Here's hoping you have a happy journey.

    Accommodation after O Pedrouzo

Congrats. You made it. Now lay back and enjoy the memories you have to recall and share. Buen Camino.

    September-October Camino?

I walked the last week of August and all of September of 2013. It was my experience that in the beginning we had some hot days. Most days the weather was warm. It was only when we got to Galicia that it started lightening, thundering and pouring rain through the woods and partly into Santiago...

    Disappointed

Man plans and God laughs. And, yet, I'd rather his laughter than his tears. I love that. I will remember it and use it. Thank you....

    Disappointed

Thank you, but I've been there and done that many times. Your thoughts are appreciated. I'll think of doing something for practice. Buen Camino.

    Disappointed

No, we hadn't booked the flight yet, thank God. No health issues either. Just life getting in the way and a bad time to walk the Camino Frances. I'm generally a positive person, so I have to go and make some lemonade and look forward to next year. I really have to thank everybody who replied on...

    Disappointed

We had planned to go back to Spain and walk the Camino Frances for a 2nd time. It looks like it will have to be postponed until next year (8/2017). I am really disappointed but there is nothing I can do. I have to believe that this is just part of my journey and accept it. If anything changes...

    What's happening on the Camino?

I believe that the Camino is a pilgrimage not a vacation. The Camino is not Figi or Hawaii. If you go during June, July and part of August you will find crowds on the Camino Frances. Don't expect less. Students and families choose to travel at that time. If you don't have a choice maybe another...

    Pumpuli

Hi Anne. I hope you have a great Camino and that it is everything that you expected it to be and more.

    Waiting for the euphoria

For me it was exactly as mspath described. I couldn't have said it better. It's all about the experience, the land, the personal challenge, and the people that may lead you to what you seek. Buen Camino

Needing a little bit of reassurance/clarity

I think 45 days is enough. This give you time to stay longer is you want to in any city or town. If you get injured you can take a day off. When I completed the Camino Frances it took us 43 days but we stayed two days in Pamplona and one day in Samos. We are not. Fast walkers either.
