    Severe tummy bug

Thanks for the kind words from those who have wished me a speedy recovery. I'm nearly there. Having lived in South America, much of the Middle East, South Asia including India and Afghanistan and traveled very widely across the developing world, I would consider myself somewhat of an expert on...

What do people use in terms of spray for bedbugs?

Tee tree oil. On my sleeping bag etc. natural and works as regular insect repellant too without the chemicals! I've got a lot of mozzie bites from the nights I haven't used it in hotels.

    Severe tummy bug

Thanks, been to the doctor now in burgos. He said it could be the fountains and warned me not to drink from them....some people are more sensitive than others. He said it could be a virus too. Got rehydration salts, drugs and he gave me fluids to help with dehydration which had gone a bit too...

    Severe tummy bug

hi peregrinos, I'm walking the camino France's at the moment and have come down with a very bad tummy bug. I'm pretty sure I got it from drinking in the fountains between Puenta la reina and Azofra somewhere. Of course it could have been from food somewhere too but I tend to think it's from...

    Day one complete!

Thank you all so much. I'm thinking of just walking to uterga tomorrow, and going very slow. And stopping even sooner if I need to. I've lightened my bag, treated my blister and had a good rest this evening. Feeling a bit more heartened, mostly by your words of encouragement. Thank you all so...

    Day one complete!

All such great advice! Day two has kicked my butt! In pamplona, probably walked too fast and my pack too heavy, plus a bit of jet lag and I am whipped! Blisters coming up on the side of my heels so will be attending to them as soon as I can lift my head off the bed. It was a hot day today...

    Starting tomorrow from Roncevalles

Buenos Dias! I start my camino tomorrow from Roncevalles! Just some last minute questions....leaving madrid early this morning and wondering what I need to take with me to Roncevalles....sounds like there's nothing available there at all? Should I pick up water, snacks etc before arrival...

    Hiking shoes

I've now decided on a pair of Ahnu goretex hiking shoes and a pair of Solomon hiking boots after hours of research and a long chat with an expert. Australia is so expensive for kit so have purchased on Amazon then will send back the pair I don't want. I'll still have a month to break them in...

    Hiking shoes

Hi!! I have been having a few problems with a very trusty old pair of scarpa hiking shoes, getting really sore toes. So I'm looking in to new shoes and thinking I'd prefer something much lighter. I'm looking at saloman shoes... I've used them before, like a cross between a sneaking and a...

How to take care of your feet !!!

I'm bringing a pair of scarpa hiking shoes that I've worn for a few years and a pair of teva sandals. I'm seriously thinking of bringing super lite Nike running shoes too! They're great to walk in and well ventilated. I'm walking in late September and October!

Weather in October and what to pack?

That looks perfect! Can't find a supplier in Australia... Are they easy to find in Spain? Might be easier to just pick one up there? Thank you!!

Weather in October and what to pack?

I'm not taking rain pants....I just feel like I need to draw the line somewhere and I've walked with wet legs before....as long as it's not too cold. Hopefully the poncho will be enough. On that....any tips for a good branch of poncho? The only one I can find doubles as a shelter which seems...

    Starting in Pamplona

Querido Peregrines, I'm thinking of starting in Pamplona now instead of Roncesvalles. I might be a bit too rushed starting in Roncesvalles but equally, don't want to miss out on a nice part. Has anyone started in Pamplona? This is my first camino!! xAmanda
