From the April 2016 Conde Nast Traveller. The Ribadeo public albergue is great, but only 10 beds. Sleep in a fancy corn crib! The article says hostels and hotels are "mediocre at best." Hmm. Not for the pilgrim crowd. App is Walk and Horrero.

Follow the arrows! Ask the locals. On the Norte, don't take the arrows marked "biki"or "bici" for the bike route. It takes you away from the hiking path and onto the roads. Maybe that's why people think the Norte has so many road sections?! You may want to start in Hendaye, France, and walk...

I love the sea, and walking with a child made the varied landscape of the Norte more interesting for him. Frequent swims helped, too! The side trip to Oviedo was a great highlight for us.
Last month Pobena was overcrowded, 42 people in 22 spots. Other than that as far as Oviedo not a problem in June 2014. Many may be closed by September.
There is a helpful info desk near baggage claim. I took the bus last week from the airport to Hendaye for 2,40 and it was a nice ride through St Jean de Luz. Then walk across the Pont St Jacques into Irun. No need for train. Buen camino!
Heading westward on the norte
Looks like it has been for a while, but leaving the beach you have to go up and over to get to the promenade. You can ignore the arrows at the first row of apartment blocks, go left onto the street, follow signs to town center and rejoin the camino on the promenade without wandering on the sand...
