I'm a strong proponent of merino. In addition to the CF, I've used them on a trek in Nepal and they didn't smell even after several days of usage. When using synthetics at home I found that I had to use a special detergent as they still sometimes smelled even after washing.
I haven't used it in years but at the time I used the free option at wordpress.com for daily updates and the occasional photos.
I don't know if it has everything on your wish list but you still have time to check it out.
Buen Camino
I walked in shorts (zip-offs) every day only changing to long trousers in the evening. I only had those two pair so it just k8nd of worked out that way.
I did a fair bit of travelling pre-COVID. i didn’t buy anything specifically for the Camino so everything is sitting in storage bins waiting for their next taste of freedom
Are you a lumberjack shaving with your ax? If not, the weight of a razor would seem negligible. Since you're already in the habit of not shaving, just continue it. As you say, you can buy things along the way, stop at a barber shop, etc
I used the pack I already had. It was larger than I needed but it was comfortable. It was easy to find things in it without having to dump it all out and I never felt the need to fill it up.
Couldn't have done without them. I'm a light sleeper so no matter how tired I was I needed them to get and stay asleep. Just simple foam earplugs from the local pharmacy
If they don't feel good in the store or at home, return them. I have massively wide feet and after trying on many different brands I settled on Merrell as they seemed best in the store. Not so much when I hit the trail.
After a while It was hard to tell where one blister ended and the others...
I had 2 pairs of trousers. it wasn’t part of any plan but one pair became my walking ones and the 2nd was what I changed into for evening.
Everything else I had 3. Worked well for me
I forget where we were on the CF but we showed up at the Muni, got our beds and found out that they had declined the bag of one of our group.
We had to wander around and find out where they delivered it to across town, pick it up and get back. It added a few extra hours on to our day so make...
I brought my thinking I’d have plenty of time to read but it just never happened. There was too much else going on and eventually I shipped it to Santiago
I hadn‘t planned on it but it ended up with my zip-off trousers becoming my walking trousers and a regular pair for evenings. 3 tech shirts were just in regular rotation. Wear one, wash one, etc
I thought it would be a great opportunity to catch up on my reading so I had e-books.
I just never got around to it. There were so many other things to do that by the time I got to bed all I wanted to do was sleep.
I was on a trek recently and I started out with Icebreaker. The day the smartwool socks came up in rotation I thought I felt a hotspot forming.
It may have been a coincidence but I switched back to the Icebreakers and had no more issues the rest of the trek.
My rain jacket also served as a windbreaker. It worked well both for walking, hanging out in the evening, etc. My sea-to-summit poncho was used the only 2 days it rained
