    Inserts for shoes

    I'm considering getting insert for my boots as well but am not sure what will be most effective in avoiding shin splints. Some people suggest full inserts and some just for the heel. Any thoughts? I'm also concerned that by adding inserts into my boots that they'll bee too tight.nhas anyone else...

    Doug, can you give me the link to the CSJ site? I don't think I've been on it and it seems like a great resource. I weighed my pack out today and it's right at 10% of my body weight so if I go by the 15% I should be fine with food and water and still be less than 8kg.

    Did my first 16k training walk yesterday in the running clothes and it was great! Am headed to REI though to get better socks and a better (non-cotton) top. I think this is going to work out really well :)

    Thank you all so much! This has been incredibly helpful and I will be sticking with running clothes for the journey (both tank version and an additional longsleeved layer) as well as a poncho for rain. I'm now looking in to the fleece suggestion on top of this. Joan
