As the old saying goes, 'If you cant afford the travel insurance you can't afford to go"
In 2015 in Condom I put my passport through the automatic washing machine. I had to travel back to Embassy in Paris and wait around for an emergency passport with travel restrictions (it is all the...
Yes we got lost several times, gets frustrating but each time was because we were not paying attention. But don't worry, you always get back to where you are supposed to be.
Our favourite was in Lascabanes, Gite-Chambre d'hotes L'Etape Bleue. Plan 43 in 2014 edition of MMD. Private rooms and dorms. A little shop just up the road that had everything you need if you wish to cook yourself. A great host also.
I never throw a guide book out, they claim top shelf in my library. You get stronger as you walk so the extra weight of a few pages is not worth loosing your guide book.
The French walk the Le Puy route in sections, more as walkers than pilgrims. So some sections will be busy while it will be easy to get a bed in not so popular sections. Booking ahead is always recommended. Demi pension is very good value plus you get to eat their wonderful food, better than you...
Pack for all conditions, you will get them all during your Le Puy Camino. I remember that we had hotter days, more rain & colder days than what we had on the Camino Francis the same time the previous year in Spain
Is that why a lot of churches are locked? On the two Camino's we have walked we have been disappointed to find many churches are locked. We have been told they are locked to prevent pilgrims from sleeping in them to avoid paying for a Gite.
In a few weeks we will again join the Le Puy route but this time from where we left it in Condom last year. Has anybody walked the variant off the GR65 into Saint Palais after Aroue. Plan 83 Bis in my version of MMD. I have noticed it is one of the "Most beautiful villagers" What are your...
We also stay in private rooms and we budget for this so I really don't think it should be described as fortunate. On the Le Puy route it is often the private rooms that are fully booked.
If you can make it to Montbonnet, then stay at Chamber d'hotes La Barbelotte. Great room, wonderful food and just the nicest host. On a par with Gite a La Ferme in Saugues.
This has to b
This has to be one of the best places to stay on the Le Puy Camino. She is a gem. The food and wine is also some of the best on the entire route. The home made yogurt in the morning is to die for.
Yes, it is a communal meal, very good and one of the most social meals we had on this route. We had a great night there. There was also a free washing machine and dryer there which was very handy as we had walked in freezing rain all afternoon.
I agree, I am from Australia and have travelled a very large part of this world and I only speak English. I find a smile will get you anywhere you wish to go.
We walked from Le Puy to Condom last year and could not agree more with your comments. But we did love walking in France, and are going back to Condom in 4 weeks time to finish our Le Puy Camino to SJPDP. Then on to walk the CP. Then because we love walking in France we are going back to Le Puy...
Walking in France is better than walking in Spain but not as social. Yes you must book ahead otherwise you will get nothing to eat. The food is better but I prefer the Spanish wine.
It is reasonably well marked but you do need to keep an eye out for it. It is just before Chapelle d'Abrin. Plan 57 in MMD. It is to your right and goes down a hill. It is about 5 km in. There is lots of cat statues in the town, a local legend.
