Bailarina

New Member
Hi there,
I plan on walking for ten days in June from st jean...
I've just started planning my trip and just wanted to hear any tips or suggestions.
I'm leaving from Ireland and going alone.
Very excited about this little adventure!!
Thanks in advance

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Hi Bailarina

And you should be excited! You'll probably get as far as Logrono at least, but it depends on your priorities, fitness etc. It's a lovely part of the Camino.

Brouse through this forum a bit more, because you'll find all kinds of advice. My suggestion would be to start with your flights. There are no major airports on the route, so you will have to consider buses and/or trains as well. (Look into Dublin-Biarritz then back to Dublin from Madrid or Bilbao, but you may find a better way.)

Once your flights are organised you'll have a clear idea of how much time you have to walk. Then you just have to decide how you want to fill that time; how far you want to walk, how long to stop in places of interest etc. Expect that to change as you start walking, meet people, and see places, so don't over-plan!

Buen Camino!

Thanks a million, the flights where my main concern.
I just need to figure out how much I can walk!
I'm pretty fit, but haven't done much walking before.
I'm lucky I live in an area where there are some really good walking trails, so no excuse!!!

Hi Bailarina.

You can work out how far you like to walk each day when you get there. Just make sure you have suitable equipment (clothes, boots, pack etc). I was totally unfit, smoke 20 a day, drink more than any right-minded fish, and still arrived safely in Santiago! Look at the advice on the forum for the first day or two especially (SJPP-Roncesvalles) because it can be tough, which isn't ideal when you're just starting out. There are ways around that.

So you'll be fine! Don't burden yourself with any expectations. Just turn up in SJPP and (after the pilgrim office and a good night's sleep), there's only one place to aim for really...

Buen Camino!

Hello. I am considering walking the Camino for the first time this fall, probably beginning the third week of September in St. Jean. But I keep reading about how crowded the Camino is, including...
Is there a list of albergues that also have private rooms on the Camino Frances? Gracias.
Hi everyone -- After walking the Frances from SJpdP last October, I'm planning to revisit the bit between Logrono and Burgos this July, following different stages. It's the section where I had...
I started out from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on 1 May. It turned out to be an unforgetable day. Above 1,000 m or so it snowed, catching many people unprepared. Later that day "many" walkers were...
And another attempt looms, to buy a decent Poncho after trying and failing in the previous two likely towns. Anyone know where an Altos or similar might be bought in Leon, please? 😁
