20th July - 12th August and paralysed by indecision

Camino Frances (2008), Del Norte (July 2018)
Hi,

I have been thinking and over-thinking this for weeks and need some help.

I have from the 20th July to the 12th August booked off work. I haven't booked flights yet (from Exeter/Bristol ideally but don't mind) to walk the Camino but I just cannot figure out the best route and starting point.

I walked from Biarritz to Burgos 10 years ago and so would love to actually make it to Santiago this time. That said I can't decide between the Norte (I would love to go back to San Sebastian and have had previous non-walking holidays in Cantabria and Asturias and been blown away by the scenery) and the Frances because I will be walking alone and wouldn't mind meeting some folk along the way.

I have had a rough year and would prefer to do as much as possible between my starting point and Santiago but suspect that the first half of the Norte is more beautiful than the latter half and in 3 weeks I guess I can't make the whole thing. I'm healthy enough and happy to walk about 5 hours a day. I had thought to aim for Santander to Santiago on the Norte but would this miss all the best of the Northern Coast.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,

Glenn

Wouldn't you like to go on from Burgos? depending on how much you go per day you can even reach Santiago in that timeframe! There will be plenty of good food, nice people and awesome places to visit :)

The good thing about your doubt is that there is no bad choice to be made :)

And as there is no such thing as "the whole thing" or "the entire camino", maybe you can just choose a very nice place +- 20 days away from Santiago and go from there?

Do the Frances - you could comfortably do 300 kms so look at the map and that will be your starting point - Leon would be a good starting point. If you want company then Frances is the one to do. If you've had a rough year then TLC is what is wanted! Enjoy!
