Hi, I'm starting the Portuguese Camino on 7th May and had planned on using allergies along the way. Was planning on using the albergue in Labruge on the first night(Litoral route) then leaving the coast at Vila do Conde and heading inland to Rates to pick up the Central route.
My previous experience was on the CF (and pre - Covid).
Will I have a problem not having booked accommodation??

Don’t panic.
Most times you’ll find a place to sleep.
But just in case, take a sleeping bag.
I did that Camino ( Lisbon to Santiago, inland route) 2 years ago and I found accommodation at every place I stopped.
You’ll be fine.
You’re a pilgrim.
People will help you if you get stuck.

Do not panic the bus and metro system there is fantastic and they also have Uber and Bolt. So worst case scenario you can use those to go to a place that has rooms. I have never had an issue on the Portuguese route with beds but it is nice to have options

I'm also planning to stay at the albergue in Labruge. According to Gronze it has 50 beds. I'm hoping that's enough.

The only thing, the last thing that one should never ever do on the camino is panic. Especially in Portugal and especially on the coastal camino. There are lots of options to choose from. Look at Gronze, Wise Pilgrim and Buen Camino apps for choices and if need be just go on Booking.com as a last resort. The people in Portugal are the nicest and most generous people on earth. You will be surprised how many speak English. You may on one or two occasions have to spend a little more than you may want to. But there are beds and options as others have said. The Portuguese people will not let you sleep under a bridge!

Another option, just before Labruge is Camping Orbitur at Praia de Angeiras.

I emailed them for a reservation and received this reply:

Thank you Very much for your interest in the Campsite Orbitur Angeiras.

Note that these special prices/conditions can only be applied on the counter, in person and are always subject to availability at the time the pilgrim arrives at our campsite. For these reasons we cannot make reservations.

However, it is possible to make reservations directly on our website: www.orbitur.pt , but in this case we will not be able to apply special rates for pilgrims, who will have to pay what is provided for in our current price list.

Consider that, generally, given the large number of accommodations we have for pilgrims, we are able to accommodate almost all pilgrims arriving at our campsite, even without reservation.

Honestly, I would advise against this. My wife did a few years ago, although I don't think it was planned, and she had a dreadful time. I recommend making every endeavour to stay away from allergies, no matter how good you have been told they are.

I completed this exact route last month (it was fabulous!). I was a first timer and opted not to use albergues (I used Booking.com to reserve small hostales, pensions etc to alleviate some of the anxiety i had about the trip).
The only thing i would say is that some of the stopping places are very small with not many accommodation options (albergue or otherwise) If you are happy to deviate from the stages and walk further/shorter distances, as required, you should be fine. You are experienced, so you will have the required mindset, im sure!
