Accommodations suggestions

So we have purchased our airline tickets to Pamplona and back home from Santiago. Now we want to reserve places to stay in SJPDP and Santiago. I'd love suggestions for both please. Where did you stay? Recommendations? We want a private room with a private bathroom to get started and end.

EDIT: I reserved rooms.
In SJPDP: La Villa Esponda. Private room with bath near pilgrim office.
In Santiago: Libredon Rooms, private room with bath. Supposed to be near the Cathedral.

Everything in between is on the fly.

So, no answer required? If I were you, I'd certainly reserve Roncesvalles and Zubiri, depending on when you're going. That would get you through the bottleneck if it's busy.

In Santiago: Libredon Rooms, private room with bath. Supposed to be near the Cathedral.

Having stayed at Libredon twice after my Camino in 2022 — once after I finished my CF, and again after I came back from Fisterra — I can confirm that it is indeed very close to the Cathedral, and is a very comfortable place to stay. The wonderful Sra. Doli will take good care of you!

I had no problem booking at El Palo de Avellano in Zubiri last year for 5 people on their website.

Definitely check Gronze. You can find contact info for the albergues, pensions, etc. there.

Have you considered Mosteiro de San Martiño Pinario in SdC? Close to the cathedral. But I think you may have sorted out the SdC end?

It's in Ispoure which abuts SJPP but is an easy walk from the SJPP train station and a quick walk into the heart of SJPP . It is on Booking.com. It has only one room and is run by a lovely couple. It included breakfast, and for an extra very fair price, they provided dinner ( but that is not compulsory).

Been emailing someone at a hostel in Zubiri. I think this one is figured out.

I would recommend La Perla Negra in Azqueta. Helena, the owner, made us a huge, and delicious homemade meal, and there’s also a private room that you can request.

Second recommendation: Albergue Gaia, in Mansilla de las Mulas. Hosts were absolutely lovely, caring individuals. Rooms are relatively small (4? or 5? Bunkbeds in my room), clean shared bathrooms, well-eqipped kitchen where you can make your own dinner, or make a shared dinner with others. And we woke up the next morning to beautiful, soft, classical music, and a beautifully set table for breakfast that made you forget you were on the Camino. What a magnificent, calm start to the day.

It depends on when you're going. Over the years, I've arrived (as well as heard stories) more than once to pilgrims crying because they arrived and the albergue was full. It's prudent to book SJPP, Orisson or Borda, Roncesvalles, and Zubiri in my opinion. It's not referred to as the "bottleneck" for no reason.
However, if you feel like taking a chance, that would be the chance to take

According to Gronze the albergue sleeps 183, which is plenty of space much if the year, but there are periods when an average of 400 or more pilgrims leave SJPdP daily, so pilgrims without a reservation get caught out. This is typically the first few weeks of May and September, but I predict a very busy April thus year too. I see from your profile that you are planning to start your walk in June, so it's not so critical to book Roncesvalles.
