Hi, I'm planning to walk with a friend from Leon to Santiago in June and would be grateful if anyone can recommend a guide book which will cover this stretch of the route...where to stay, what to avoid etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Steph,

I just walked this very route at the start of April. It got very crowded in the second week as it was Holy Week. On two occasions we had to stay in Hostels as the Albergues were full.

My advice to you would be to firstly not make any set plans, but try to stay in the albergues that are not featured so heavily in the guide books, you may avoid the crowds that way. And be prepared for hot weather. Mind you, as I am from Ireland, all other countries are hotter.

Hope you have a good Camino

I borrowed Lonely Planet's "Walks in Spain" guide, from the Library, and it was great

maybe I'll run into you along the route, I'm also going in June, but starting in Roncenvailles

Steph,

take a look at http://www.mundicamino.com/ingles/ for impressions and daily distances for the etappes.
Much info there, also about the albergues!

And....use the search-function at this forum! :)

The Confraternity of St James guide, The Camino Francés 2006, is the best practical handbook. It is small, lightweight, cheap and full of up to date information on accommodation etc. It is available from their bookshop at http://www.csj.org.uk

Here is a pic from 2016, I love the simplicity of the sketch map and directions "1 km climb up, 5km flat, 5km down". I wonder how the prices are now?
