Then loop it around the strap to get the correct length with an over lap to allow for sewing. Cut and seal the ends with a lighter (careful it can burn). Then I use a small piece of double sided tape to hold it in place and then just sew it. Then just take off the clip, thread it onto the strap, refit the clip and pass the loose end through the loop.
