Attention: trains on strike in France

Felipe

Veteran Member
There will be serious problems with trains in France, after rail workers decided to extend a two-day strike started last Wednesday. Apparently, this will continue until next Monday, at least.
There are major disruptions on suburban and intercity TGV lines. The company webpage announces that
as for today, "Trains to Spain: 1 out of 3 trains expected to be running as normal"

I travelled from Gare Mountparnasse to Hendayaj on 12th and although I didn't get on the train I booked I managed to make the journey in a very overcrowded train, the SNCF people that were working were extremely helpful and that was suppose to be the worst day

This situation is a pain. It can be serious if you are booked on an international flight, as happened to us several years ago. Our travel insurance does not cover missed flights due to strikes. Which is why we now build in two days at our departure city - just in case.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
During the strike in 2010 the railway company set in some buses instead. Did not feel well about that, but to reach my flight in Bordeaux I oversaw my unionfeelings.

Remind me again why people fly into Paris to get to SJPDP.....o_O. Getting to SJPDP from Barcelona could not have been easier; I landed at BCN early morning, bus to Pamplona, van ride to SJPDP, had plenty time to get the credential stamped, do grocery shoping, explored the town, and rested-- all on the SAME day of landing from a transatlantic flight. Same from Madrid.

SNCF reports that traffic is almost normal in long distance trains (meaning too, I assume, Bayonne, Irún, Lyon). The only problems remains in the Paris outskirts (the RER system). Looks as the strike is going to end soon.
