Baggage Shipping Question

Hi All,

Apologies if this is not the right forum to put this ...

Myself and my girlfriend will be walking the Camino in mid July'ish' (providing no other stops on our European tour), however, beforehand will we have a bit of extra luggage with us left over from a European tour we are starting in June.

Instead of shipping this back home, we intend to ship it to the end of the tour (via the Camino Travel center in Santiago) as it will be needed for an extended working holiday stay we are going to have in Ireland after our Camino is done.

Was just after some detail on

1. How easy it is to ship luggage like this from Spain? (i.e. do we do it at the post office, or through a baggage shipping company or something?

2. Do we need to package it up in a box or something similar?

3. Has anynone had any luck in shipping things to the Camino Travel center from other countries beforehand i.e. from France or Greece (two countries we will be in beforehand)

Thanks heaps in advance
Tim

I posted a package to the Camino Travel Centre from Toulouse in France. You can either buy a box to pack your stuff into, or wrap it as a parcel in brown paper. You'll pay for the postage and then pay the Camino Travel Centre your 20 euro when you arrive there.

Hello: Can anyone tell me a location in Madrid from which one can ship to the Santiago Travel Center? We arrive in Madrid Monday, June 14, flying out Tuesday afternoon to Porto to start our Camino. Would prefer to ship a box with a post-Camino wardrobe to Santiago before leaving Madrid. Buen Camino and thank you.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

I shipped two parcels to the Camino Travel Center. One from Paris, with a few minor things in it, cost me 26 Euro to ship, including box. I then shipped a much larger box that was much heavier from Pamplona for a cost of 8.50 Euro plus 2 Euro for the box. I would wait until you get to Spain to ship your stuff. It is considerably cheaper to ship within Spain than from another country to Spain.

I really appreciate the service the Camino Travel Center supplies. It really was nice to know my stuff was safe.

Just an update...there is no post office in Terminal 4 at Madrid now. There is one in terminal 1 downstairs. You have to take the free shuttle bus from Terminal 4 to get there if you want to send baggage ahead. We were there in October and had no trouble shipping two bags to Santiago.
