Anyone on the Camino Frances near Ponferrada between 21st and 28th September should be careful about accommodation, the U.C.I. World Road Cycling Championships are on at that time, there will be major pressure on accommodation and possible route disruptions, Friday 26th, Saturday 27th and particularly Sunday 28th will see huge numbers of cycling enthusiasts descend on the area. Think of Pamplona during San Fermin and you'll get some idea of the numbers involved.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Thanks for the warning! Will plan on more rest days before.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

Thank you for the heads up. I'm assuming the albergues will continue to house pilgrims only....

But I thought you had to be a pilgrim to stay at the hostels so people coming in for the race wouldn't be able to find accommodation at the hostels, right? Or am I missing something? We could very well be in that area during that time. If it looks like we will be, we will linger along the Camino a little longer.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The albergues will still be only open to peregrinos to the best of my knowledge but as a substantial minority of peregrinos avail of small hotels and other non albergue accommodation, they will be 'forced' to seek albergue accommodation instead.

Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles

Thanks !!

As a big cycling fan, curious if any who have passed through Ponferrada this week could comment on how the World Cycling Championships have impacted upon accommodation and the C.F. on this stretch?

I had a friend finishing up her Camino Olvidado, which ends in Ponferrada, coming into Ponferrada from the northwest a few days ago. She said it was a mess, lots of detours, things blocked off. And even had a bit of a hard time finding accommodation on the last night of her walk, about 20 km outside Ponferrada.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
