Best place to start?

Me and a group of friends are planning to walk part of the Camino Frances, around 200-300km of it hopefully ending in Santiago de Compostela.
We were thinking of starting in either Leon or Sarria, and really just walking (and possibly camping along the way) at our own pace to Santiago.
We thought Sarria initially however wanted more of a challenge really, and also thought that Leon would be an easier place to get to (via train) as well as being that bit further away.
Any advice and tips for a first time traveller? :?:
Thanks in advance

From Leon you are looking at about 300KMs - for closer to 200 with good transportation options, try Ponferrada (200KM) or even Astorga (250KM). From Astorga, you'll get to climb up to the Iron Cross!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the reply, sorry I had a type-o, I ment we were looking to do 200-300km of the journey (see we still use miles, inches and feet here in UK  ).

How long does it take on average to walk from Leon to Santiago? and the other places as well?

I second Fresco Tours. If you want a challenge, start at Astorga or Leon. You'll climb up to the Cruz de Ferro as well as O'Cebreiro. Not sure what your camping options will be, though. :) How much time are you going to have? If you are going to take it at your own pace & only have a couple of weeks perhaps starting at Astorga or Ponferrada would work best.

Buen Camino!

The first edition came out in 2003 and has become the go-to-guide for many pilgrims over the years. It is shipping with a Pilgrim Passport (Credential) from the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela.
Just to give you an idea of the time it takes...I think it took me 12 days to walk from Leon to Santiago. From Astorga it would probably be 10 days.
