best way to travel to astorga

Hey.
My sister and I are starting our camino in astorga this year and were wondering what the best way to get there is.Last year we started from triacastela and found the best way was to fly to santiago and then bus back to triacastela. I'm not sure what would be the best way to get to astorga to start. If anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful. We are both looking forward to getting back on the camino and are counting down already!

Love becky

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I think the bus goes from Leon to Astorga pretty regularly. You could try from there. I took the bus from La Virgen del Camino to Astorga, I assume the bus started in Leon.

Depends which airport you are intending to fly to in Spain. Last year, after flying to Madrid, we took a direct bus from the city to Astorga (about 4 hours, if I remember well). There is a direct bus from the airport, but it was already full. Anne

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
I am getting an Easyjet flight from Stansted to Asturias, stopping the night in Oviedo and then getting the train to Leon - nice trip. Buses and trains go regularly Leon to Astorga. I did it this way before and it was a good way of easing into a different mode of being.

Astorga is on the main east-west railway line for the north of Spain. You can get there direct from Hendaya, Barcelona, Madrid, Santiago, or just about anywhere that connects to Leon.

Useful information, thanks. I'm aiming to start from Astorga too, I'm heading out 3rd September, good luck on your Camino.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

Hello Pilgrims,

I plan to take an ALSA bus to Astorga from Barcelona on 28 August, but to purchase a ticket online is unfortunately not made easy for foreigners (I'm wondering why?!).
Anyway, how high is the probability that there are plenty of tickets left to buy one at the point of sale in Barcelona a couple of days in advance?
Thanks for answering!

Aliens can do it too.
For all of us , foreigners and strangers and aliens- go to MOVELIA site- this is ALSA site for easy tickets purchase for us.

My mom started in Astorga last year. She took the direct bus from the airport and it went quite smoothly. There is also a train but the bus was quite a bit cheaper.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Thank you, zammy, for the hint!
I will def check out the website and hopefully I'll manage to buy a ticket there :)

Yallah, thanks also for your information!
Since I plan to spend some days before my Camino in Barcelona, I won't take a bus directly from the airport. But your mom's case is an example that it's possible to get tickets right there at the spot as well.

Zammy, it worked, thanks!
I have a bus ticket to Astorga now :)
can't wait to start...

Hi Becky,

I may be a bit late offering advise.
You can catch a bus from Santiago airport to Lugo, stay overnight in Lugo and then catch an early bus to Astorga. I think from memory you will arrive around 10am.

Buen camino

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Just yesterday I took the bus from Santiago to Astorga - easy! Several buses a day, starting as early as 8:00am. Euros 22.76
